Looking for humanely raised AND slaughtered meat in MA?!
I'm looking for farms or companies that either ship, or are located in MA or RI. Many thanks!
Answers: I'm trying to get away from factory farmed meat and the inhumane conditions that go along with them. I would like to purchase dairy and meat from a place that humanely raises the meat AND humanely slaughters the meat (often times the animals are shipped to a slaughterhouse that kills them in a painful, drawn out way and I want to avoid that).

try either
http://www.localharvest.org
or
http://eatwild.com
both have extensive listings of farms that sell pasture raised meats, among other places that sell local foods such as farmers markets, co-ops, resturants, CSA's, etc..
There is a website (sorry I can't think of the name) that provides the names and addresses of local farmer's markets all over the nation.....google it and I'm sure you'll come up w/it....not only will you be able to get the meat that you want but you'll be supporting local agriculture. Most areas, even small communities have a farmer's market now for at least one growing season.
your best bet is to go find a local feed + seed store + meet w/ some of the local farmers or ask the clerk who they would recommend . you may even contact the local vet who may tell you what vet the farmers use , that vet can tell you who is the best option since he prob only goes out to farms where the farmer cares about his livestock enough to keep them healthy not just grind them up into a burger b-4 it dies
It's good that you care about the animals, but I think, no matter how they are raised, it's cruel to kill them anyway. Please try vegetarian products, you'll find all kinds there, from bread spreads to "sausages" and paté, they even taste a lot better than real meat.
It's easy! Get your meat from a local farm/farmers market/ local butcher! Sense they are small the animals get a better quality life, more attention, and more freedome to roam around, like normal animals.
Your question seems better suited to the general Food & Drink section.
There is a list of Massachusetts Farmer's Markets at this site:

I work at a co-op in Wakefield RI that you can order humane beef from. It comes from a nice farm in Connecticut where the animals live in the fresh air and eat grass. They are reputable and humane. You can order any amount from them, and we always have their ground beef in our freezer. It is fantastic.
visit alternativefoodcoop.com
There is also a farm that comes to the farmer's market at Casey Farm in Saunderstown RI in the summer, and you can order large amounts from them. Casey Farm sells whole chickens, and I know other places nearby to get chickens eggs and milk, but you have to know the farmers. Farmers markets are good ways to hook up with these folks, and will be starting up in South County in April.
I dont live in the US so I cant help you out but usually they would be labelled organic. Animals farmed organically are usually raised in slightly better conditions than battery farmed animals and they arent pumped with loads of antibiotics
I dont mean to be preachy or mean but how is slaughtering an animal in anyway humane?
Still if its a choice, organics always better! x
I'm sorry to say but there's no humane way to kill an animal.
My favorite online stores for high grade meats:
Lobel's www.lobels.com
Snake RiverFarms http://www.snakeriverfarms.com/
Morgan Ranch www.morganranchinc.com
their meats are more costly but quality is top notch.

If you do searches, make sure to include "pasture raised" and "humane farming."
I can′t answer your question because I don′t live in the US, but I′d like to thank you for asking this very good question. Very well done indeed. I believe this is a real right attitude towards an issue of consuming meat. In my view when more people would think in the same way, we would live in a much better world.
I know I′ll receive some negative votes here for saying this, because you posted your question under V&V where people oppose any animal slaughter, but that′s ok with me.
This is not a question to ask vegetarians and vegans. There is no such thing as humane meat. No matter how kindly the animals are treated during their lives, they are still killed in the end, and they are often slaughtered in the same slaughterhouses as conventionally raised animals. Even if they were in a "better" slaughterhouse, there's no humane way to kill anyone.
And when it comes to dairy, even the kindest farms will have the cows slaughtered when production declines, and even the kindest farms will sell off the male offspring (a cow does have to get pregnant to produce milk) to veal producers.
But I did avoid the temptation to say "no such animal."
Ho dear, I can understand your feelings and thinking.
Look at it the the other way. Those animals are breed to be slaughtered, and if they are not; then where to bring so much food for them?
I know, I sound cruel, but that is the way of nature. Culling the excess population is done by nature. That is why carnivorous animals are around.
Now on the conditions of animals being slaughter. This is why they say, "go to the hotel; don't pip in to its kitchen." (of course now days there are regulations on how kitchen should be, and hotel kitchens are ultra clean.). We have to raise this question of yours with the health authorities and get regulations passed and implemented.
As far as you being temporarily vegetarian, actually that should be life style for all human beings. our digestive system is meant for vegetables and fruits. Moreover, there are vegetarian dishes which test better than non-vegetarian ones. And you get all proteins and vitamins you need from vegetarian foods.
Good question, raise the issue, I support you.
