What do New Vegetarians eat and please dont say tofu?!

Question: any ideas, please? Thanks!!

Answers: any ideas, please? Thanks!!

Fruits, vegetables, lentils, beans (dried or canned), grains (oats, wheat, barley, quinoa, buckwheat, rice, etc), frozen foods like Quinoa, Morningstar Farms, Amy's products and Boca Burgers, soymilk, rice milk, almond milk, bean burritos from Taco Bell, veggie pizzas. You can make veggie burgers and loafs from recipes on the internet. You can make seitan "wheat meat" with recipes from the internet (it is high in protein...you mix vital wheat gluten with water and flavorings..or whole wheat flour and rinse out the starch by kneading under a slow flow of water, leaving the gluten proteins). You can make nutritious vegetable soups or buy vegetarian vegetable soup or vegetarian baked beans.

vegetables...

Soya- meat, Quorn, other meat substitutes, lentils, beans, dairy, loads of veggies.

Where do you live? There are many great food retailers in the UK that sell fab produce like Cauldron, Quorn, Linda McCartney range.

New vegetarians are worse than ever......true vegetarians are very rare.........new vegetarians are just following a fad (I believe it's the "in" thing lately).

Most vegeterians still eat dairy products but some don't. It's your decision. We can eat mainly everything but these: meat, fish, gelatin and eggs. Those are the main animal based products so we avoid those. But hey, I'm a vegeterian and I don't eat tofu. I just don't like it. Too white and mushy for me. I stick with grains, fruit, veggies and nuts. Nuts and beans are important for vegeterians so they get the protien they need.

If you are scared of tofu, put it in pasta sauce when you have spaghetti, you can even cut it up really small if you prefer... you won't even know it's there because it will taste like the pasta sauce.

Other than that, vegetarians eat salads, veggie pita/wrap/quesidilla, vegetables, fruit, seeds, nuts, grains/bread/cereals.

Vegetarians don't eat meat (including fish,) and other foods tha come from slaughtered animals. This would include ingredients like gelatin, lard, tallow, beef or chicken broth, or rennet.

Anything that DIDN'T come from a dead animal is available to you. This means fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, dairy products and eggs. And of course, anything you can make from them. New vegetarians often appreciate meat substitutes like Boca burgers because it helps them to enjoy the same meals they did before, just without the meat.

I don't know what your objection is to tofu. It doesn't taste like anything on its own (it absorbs the flavor of whatever you cook it with) and it's so versatile. If you haven't tried it, keep an open mind. I was SURE I'd never eat it, but now I have scrambled tofu for breakfast at least three times a week. But, you can successfully be a vegetarian without ever eating it if that's what you want.

Congrats on going veg. Basically, vegetarians eat fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, seeds, and grains. Here's a shopping guide: http://www.vegcooking.com/shoppingGuide....

Also, veggie burgers, veg chicken strips, and other faux meats make the transition a lot easier... see http://www.vegcooking.com/guide-favs.asp for a list of popular products.

Good luck!

i like the "fake" meat products.... i take any meal i had with meat pretty much and sub in the veg. versions! it tastes great, ,just try differnt ones until you find brands/types that you like.

also start playing with different things... i find myself making all sorts of good meals just by mixing different things together. buy some cookbooks or browse different sites for recipes. beans/tofu are great. i barely eat tofu but it's not bad if cooked right! add beans to salsa or make vegetarian chili. and of course, eat lots of fruits and veggies :)

what do you usually eat? Mashed potatoes and gravy? Great, make the gravy with vegetarian crumbles and enjoy. Pizza? Make it cheese and mushroom. Casseroles? Make them with substitutes. Sausage and eggs? Soy sausage is delicious. Lov steak? Marinate and grill portobello mushroom tops. Fantastic!

You can eat most everything you usually do with veg substitutes. I think this is where most people go wrong, they think they have to completely change their lifestyle and eat foreign foods that they are unfamiliar with. Its just not true.

Anything that isn't an animal.

When I was a "new" vegetarian (20+ yrs ago), I ate a *lot* of meat analogs & *way* too much dairy for awhile. Gradually I cut way back on both of these things.
It really depends on what you enjoy eating. Pasta dishes are good & filling (I add lots of veggies to mine). Peanut butter sandwiches, burritos, salads, stirfried veggies or a simple meal of beans & rice, among lots of other things.

I am trying to become a vegetarian. This is some of the foods I eat:
Salads: vegetables or Fruits
I do drink milk, eat dairy products, and eggs
Rice
Beans
Vegetable soup
I drink soda, and fruit juices
Chocolate, banana pudding, etc.
Junk food that does not include any type of meat.
