i havent had any for a while but i dont know if i should keep it that way or not.

I do, because I'm a college student and they are a cheap easy source of protein for me, plus they are somewhat of an addiction.

I would definitely stop eating them if you're not into them. There is a lot of cruelty behind them, and I do feel bad for supporting it.

I personally plan to get through college without going broke, get a house and have my own little chicken coup where I could care for the animals myself. I have a vegetarian professor who does that, I think it's fantastic.

So if you can, go ahead and keep yourself egg-free.

Kudos to you!!!!!!!!!

it's your choice.
i'm a vegetarian and i have eaten eggs for the whole time i've been one. but i think i'm going to stop. i've never really liked them, i would have to kind of force myself to eat them anyway...

it kinda grosses me out to think i would eat a animals period. - cause thats what eggs are. They come out of a chickens butt, all poopy and stuff! I would not want someone to eat my girly period. sorry I know I am griss. but really thats what it is!

chicken period!

I mean think about it, I don't need eggs for anything! I love cakes, but i can make all of them without eggs.

whether or not you eat eggs is totally up to you. it just depends on how strict of a vegetarian you are. some really strict vegans wont eat eggs, cheese, or milk because they all come from animals. it just depends on how you feel and whether or not you really like eggs. personally i think its ok for you to eat them if you want to, because no chickens were hurt in order to provide you with those eggs

I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian and it is a persons choice, I do not eat them that often, but will use them in cooking food prep and ocassionally I will make egg salad for a sandwich or wrap.

I use more Egg beater, as they are just egg whites and flavours no cholesterol, and they keep longer and can be portioned better and do make things as good as real eggs.

As for the young lady and here crude remarks, they are fertilized not waht see had said, and it is those militants that are spoiling this section for those with genuine questions.

I don't eat eggs because of the cruelty involved. Egg-laying hens are so intensively confined that they can't even spread their wings, and they are slaughtered after about 2 years, when they stop producing so many eggs. The male chicks are often thrown into grinding machines while they're still alive or suffocated in plastic bags... this is because they don't lay eggs and are useless to the egg industry. Check out http://www.chooseveg.com/eggs.asp for more info.

I'm vegan so I don't eat animals no matter which life-cycle stage they're in or whether or not they've been fertilized. I personally think that eating unfertilized ova is repellent. But eggs are supposedly not as bad for you as meat and milk are. Chickens are treated absolutely horribly, though. They live the saddest lives and are just abused in order to force the most eggs out of them as possible. They never get to do anything THEY want to or even go outside. It is so sad. If you decide to quit eggs, be vigilant. Eggs and egg-derivatives are in WAY more products than you'd think. The safest bet is to stay away from processed foods or look for a "vegan" label.

It's completely your decision. I'm vegan, so I am egg-free.
If you're thinking more on the lines of health... you can start by doing just egg whites.

Otherwise if you want to elminate them entirely (and avoid prepackaged or baked good with them) there are things you can look into like Energy brand egg-replacer for baking, and tofu-scrambler (Fantastik brand has one as does Amy's) for a breakfast type egg replacement.

If your vegetarian for animal rights purposes, then it is a good idea to keep them out because buying eggs supports the same industries that slaughter chickens, etc. Even cage-free eggs aren't that humane (the cage-free label can be achieved by opening the gates and leaving the chickens still inside the crates for like 2 hrs a day). So if that is on your mind than keep doing what your doing.

I don't eat eggs. In part I have grown to dislike them. I think among other things they smell weird.

As for the morals of eggs I think it would not be moral if there were other dietary choices to eat a fertilized egg. It does happen mostly on non-industrialized farms.

As for the industrialized farms chickens are keep in bad conditions and eventually used for meat themselves when their use has been deemed over as an egg layer.

Not to mention how they grew the hens to begin with and all the chickens that had to die in the process. The selections of baby chicks alone can be outright brutal.

I'm sure there are many articles and sites out there that will give you the ins and outs of why one should not eat eggs.

My suggestion.... follow your conscience. It knows best. With the proper information you'll know what to do. It seems your heart is in the right place.

i personally don't eat eggs because they make me gag. the smell, the sight....disgusting. anyway, it depends on what kind of vegetarian you are. i'm a lacto vegetarian; i eat no animal products except dairy. if you want to, stop eating them. just know that eggs had the potential to be a living organism. you might as well be eating a woman's eggs. ew, i know.

I've been a vegetarian for 30 years or so. I eat eggs. I get plenty of people trying to argue with me about them being potential chickens, but I've learned to just smile and ignore them. Most of the eggs you buy in the store are not fertilized anyway and only have the potential to become ROTTEN EGGS if not eaten!

I prefer to buy my eggs from a seller who has free-ranging chickens, or at least not the hens kept in confinement 24/7. In fact, I used to have my own little flock and had wonderful eggs. I had roosters too, so most of the eggs were probable fertilized. But hens don't typically sit on every egg they lay, and would be leaving eggs all over the place if not collected. Then when they do decide to get broody, they forget which nest is their favorite (not the brightest animals!), and the whole nest of eggs they started setting on gets cold and forgotten and the embryos die. It's better to collect and enjoy the eggs. If you get a broody hen and you want to let her raise a batch of chicks, give her a dozen eggs from the day's collection in a private spot where other hens won't be adding to it daily, and give her a shot at motherhood!

For the record, my hens died of old age, not from being butchered when they became less productive. And they each had names... and personalities!

Back on the subject, it's really your own personal choice. When people try to get me into an argument about what's vegetarian and what isn't, I just shrug and tell them, "If it had a face, I won't eat it!" Eggs and dairy products don't fall into that category, so I enjoy them. It works for me!

In my opinion as long as the chickens in question were not abused then eggs are quite ethical. This is because the chickens do not need unfertilized eggs for anything. I would, however, very much like to omit milk from my diet because that calves do need it. Unfortunately my paranoid mother seems to think that I need it, too.

I'm a vegetarian and I don't eat eggs. I always hated the smell.
