well first of all, soy milk isnt all that bad.
you get really used to it.
its alot sweeter than normal milk,
and it has a thicker consistancy.
now for the other questions,
you can eat lots of fruits if you dont necessarily like veggies too much =/
tofu is a pretty good substitution,
if you havent tried it... well you should
><
hope it helped!

soy milk tastes like crap
Soy milk is horrible. It tastes nothing like "real" milk.
i dont know about the meats...but everything else tastes pretty good...try going organic...soy milk is really good...its a bit sweeter than regular milk...but you have to get the right kinds...'silk' is good...you'll have to try out the different ones in your area...
Well there's meat substitutes that taste like meat. You can't tell the difference unless you actually think about it. And soy milk taste good, and has wayy less fat than regular milk. I'm a vegetarian and I don't mind eating meat. I feel more energetic and more cleansed my not eating meat (I obstain from dairy too)
If you don't like veggies, this is going to be hard.
I like Silk brand soy milk but don't care for any others. Boca burgers and some other veggie burgers are good but otherwise I'm not into faux meats and would rather do something else entirely than try to substitute meat.
Try as I might, soy cheese just does not do it for me. Soy yogurt is awful.
Wellll going vegetarian isn't necessarily a good thing because meats give you essential proteins you need and fish gives you those omega things. Soy Milk is honestly not bad. When i first started drinking it i was like "wow this isn't half bad". chocolate soy milk is amazing. The difference between soy milk and regular milk is that it's healthier and has a better taste. Its going to be a problem if you don't like vegetables.
There is no shame in eating humanely raised meats, such as those grown on small scale local, organic farms. I had to come to that conclusion after 6 years of vegetarian life-style. Organic, fee range, pasture fed eggs and milk products are harmless to the animals , and to our earth. They are so nutritious and by purchasing them you are supporting something much bigger than yourself.
Soymilk is good, but nothing like cow's milk. Replacement meats, like soy, tempeh and seitan don't taste anything like meat and aren't very good for you anyhow. They get stuck to your insides and make it difficult to absorb precious nutrients from other foods as well. Cultures that DO consume soy on a daily basis eat about 3 teaspoons a day. Much less than the usual 12-16 ounce servings.
To be vegetatian or vegan you have to have a firm love for, and crave vegetables, legumes, fruits and whole grains.
You can get all your protien from a variety of rice and beans, which is much less boring than it sounds.
Be honest with yourself. There are too many emaciated picky vegans who are vegan as a political statement, yet continue to buy into this pre-packaged commercial agenda. Buy a good, thick vegetarian cookbook, like the Moose Wood cookbooks read it through, and decide if being a veggie kid is really the right decision, or if you would be better moving into a more natural, omnivorous diet.
Being a vegetarian is pretty easy, but a vegan is very very very diffiucult if you want to maintain your protein and vitamins. Soy milk is not as good as regular milk, but i guess it's bearable when it's lightly sweetened. Tofu is good, but not by itself . You will want to learn some chinese or indian cooking recipes to make it taste decent. I personally can't stand vegan cheese, but i guess that is up to you.
If you want to be a vegan , all i have to say is good luck!!! you will need it!
Keep in mind no real scientific evidence says that being a vegan will make you live longer. Fish and low fat cheeses and milk (from cows and goats ) and eggs are excellent for warding off many diseases and staying healthy.
I love the vanilla silk soy milk.. it's really great for anything really, except for entree sort of meals... and i also drink lots of low fat rice milk... the stuff's really really good in my opinion... it sort of tastes like white rice w/ a hint of sugar... i'm not the biggest fan of the gardenburgers or other meat substitutes, i mean, they're ok, just not my deal because i love cooking... so normally i eat lots of rice, pasta's, different beans, some tofu, tempeh's good, ummm.. millet, quinoa, buckwheat, these different grains are very versatile and give you the other amino acids to pair off w/ legumes to make a complete protein... oh, and hummus, it's a miracle, a complete protein made out of chickpeas and sunflower oil so you get all the amino acids.. it's great for dipping veggies(carrots, cucumber, bell peppers) and chips(pita are my fav.) in... and is great for sandwiches.. some great websites w/ recipes include:
mayoclinic.com
womenshealthmag.com
i love these two because they've got healthy recipes w/ the nutrition information for all of the recipes.. i suggest you just go out and try stuff... get little portions so you can see what you like and don't like.. and be open-minded.. there's great food out there! :) good luck to you hun and congrats on the decision..
to tell u the truth, som fake meats atre good and sum are bad...BUT I LOVE MORINING STAR CHICKEN GRILL STARTERS...THEY TASTE BETTER THAN REAL CHICKEN TO ME...but i havent tried steak yet...all other brands of chicken taste bad to me...the best veggie burger would be the boca original and the chili is amazing...but i hope u like spicy chili!
TOFU ROX MY SOX!
You are missin' out if you have never tried tofu (which is made of soy). Honestly Soy milk? gross UNLESS you buy vanilla flavored or something with flavoring.
