Vegetarians..i need some advice please>>>?!
Answers: i am a dedicated carnivore but i've really been thinking of becoming a vegetarian,i know in the good old days we had to eat meat as there was nothing much else for us humans to eat but nowadays, there's plenty of stuff,i can't bare the thought that we are simply farming animals to slaughter and eat for our own pleasure...can you give me any words of encouregement to take this step...thankyou.
Well I support your desicion 100%. Becoming veggie is one of the best desicions I've ever made, made me healthier and happier. I felt great by doing something that will at least save a few animals. And statistically vegetarians have a higher IQ!
Take slow steps towards the change if you feel you don't have strong enough willpower to give meat and fish up immediately. To get you going I would recommend buying a vegetarian cookbook (look out for anything by Rose Elliot), maybe going out to a veggie restraunt and definately checking on here: http://www.vegsoc.org/ (Vegetarian society website). A vegetarian diet can be wondereful, explore some new foods and experiment a little bit.
Good luck and I hope you stick to it.

Going 'Veggie' can go either way - You can eat healther and become slimmer - Or eat unhealthier and become fatter - I know people that this has happened to
ugh ...
good luck?
Its a good move. Youll be healthier and wealthier (meat is sooo expensive). Try Quorn for a start as its very like meat in its texture and takes up tastes of the things you cook it in, like meat. Quorn mince makes good bolognaise and quorn fillets are just like chicken, so this will ease you in gently. The roasts you can buy are also very good. This will ease you in gently!
Get some veggie bacon - the thing most people miss is a bacon sandwich and its just as good.
Good for you hun....try eating the meat free alternatives such as quorn...there is so much choice now=]

hi
i stopped eating meat for 10 months and although i felt better as in i wasnt eating an animal i have never felt so ill and had so many health probs that 2 months ago i started eating meat again, i am still abit funny about certain meat and if i think too hard about it i can be easily put off eating it but i feel this is the right thing for me to do at this time, give it a go and see how you feel, just make sure you do get your vitamins, good luck.
Vegans don't eat marsh mellows or honey? Other than that its easy to do, just don't cave to peer pressure. You should buy organic vegetables when possible. They taste so much better. Its OK to ween yourself off say red meat first, then chix, fish, etc Think brown or wild rice and tofu. Will you eat eggs for protein? Good 4 you.
i dont ever miss meat. i love lynda maccartney sausages and soya mince is good. in fact its 100% better than meat mince cos you wont find bits of gristle and bone yuk yuk yuk . i make a lovely spag bog or shepherds pie with soya mince. there are loads of foods available that isnt animal based. its fun looking for different food and its fun trying them all. go for it. you have nothing to lose but you gain peace of mind knowing you arent hurting animals
Welcome to being healthy and cruelty free! your actions are going to be great for you, the animals and the environment.
- I think you are great for making this choice. - tell me what you need exactly to stay on this path?
What do you think will be your hardest step, and once you tell that I can help you out.
do you need help with food suggestions or with how to transition?
you can write it in your question or email me!
Congrats!
My word of encourage is this: It's really not as hard as you think.
I went veggie a couple years ago for the same reason.... almost 3 years now I think.
What I did was enjoy my favorite meat products the last day up and just said goodbye. Fried squid for lunch, and then my last meal was a BLT with peppercorn bacon. I agree with the other guy, bacon is what you crave. And seafood.
Use meat substitutes to wean yourself off. Some of it really fakes you out, like the pizza burger from Morningstar. I kept thinking there were meat chunks in it.
The other thing I did was tell myself that it was "just for a year", a trial to see how it was and afterwards I could go back.
Needless to say, after a year I was all "I came this far, I rock. I can keep this up.".
The cravings aren't too bad, and you really develop a taste for veggies you didn't realize possible. Like I get excited over spinach, romane lettuce, broccoli. Things I didn't think I would ever like are now good tasting.
So good for you! Just get through a "year" if this seems too impossible to do for the rest of your life. After a year, you'll see how manageable this really is.
People changed farming into money making business and then they got gready, instead let the animals roam the fields and eat the grass and gain their fat normally, they got greedier. Now these animals gets substances to be fed and this is not good for them due to the reason that they gain muscle and fat so quick and then of they go to market so i can count my money. Back at the ranch a few sheep dies, those sheeps helps to bring in money nobody will know but then you go to hospitals and see so many people with somany different stomach cancers, bowels removed etc definately not from the sugar they take in the coffee, feel free to chat more I have a lof where this came from
Being vegetarian is great for your health and the environment. Not to mention for the animals :) The best way to start is just to reasearch as much as possible. Reduce the meat you eat little by little and before you know it, you are practically vegetarian! I say practically because of the animal byproducts in so many things but those are easy to avoid once you know what you are looking for. I'm adding some links below to help with your research, good luck!!
Now your thinking logically. Keep it up.
The truth is that not eating meat isn't the sacrifice, it's the creatures' sacrifice when you eat meat.
Also, I thought, at one point, that I would never be able to give up meat. But when I decided to try I found it was really quite easy, and the longer you go the easier it gets.
I've been a vegetarian for over twenty years and started by just giving up red meat, then moving on to fish, chicken, etc. I've never regretted the decision. Actually in the good old days, the meat portion of the diet consisted of wild game, not the garbage they sell now, and then only 40% of the total intake.
watch this video it should change your mind unless you have no heart.
google : meet your meat
very nieve if you believe we just breed animals for pleasure , we are omnivores we need to eat meat. Not eating meat will lead to a degree of mental instability as you will notice if you read the questions and answers on here
I consider myself vegetarian, and when I get an old craving (as in meat), I usually eat a Quorn product (the Gruyere "chicken" filets are tops!) or some other fake meat product, like bacon or corn dogs with a side of chips. I still eat fish or shrimp every once in a while, but not often-maybe every 2 or 3 months. Like I said, I consider myself a vegetarian, but some purists disregard my claim since I eat fish (meat).
There are lots of veggie dishes where you won't miss meat at all-like eggplant parmesan, saag paneer, etc. Tofu is awesome because it quickly absorbs other flavors , and can be cooked to be soft or crispy.
I have been thinking the exact same recently,
My best friend is a vegetarian - she eats quorn and other stuff like that, some of quorn stuff isnt that good, but others are fantastic.
Also, I love to cook, and in certain foods where mince meat is used, just add more and more exciting/tasteful veg, it works just the same and in my opinion can taste nicer.
Hope this helped you,
x
Whatever meaty dish you are craving - there will be a vegetarian version - I promise
I have been vegetarian for about 30 years now and I no longer use vegetarian cookbooks or recipes. I just use ordinary recipes and replace whatever meat it contains with quorn or other veggie replacement. (There are Quorn fillets to replace chicken breasts, quorn chunks to replace chicken pieces, quorn mince, you can even get vegetarian beef chunks which are good. Then there are the Quorn joints - you can get the chicken/turkey ones, some with stuffing in the middle and lamb joints - all good for Sunday lunch with roasties and yorkshire pud, etc)
The only difficulty is replacing fish - there isn't a great deal you can use easily although I'm sure someone is working on it as we speak!
There are sausages, burger and bacon replacements too.
Go for it - you'll never regret it!
Good Luck!
Best of luck to you! My advice is to experiment with new foods and recipes that you may not have thought to try before. You are right, you have so many options to choose from to create healthy, balanced, meat-free meals. Keep an open mind. Kudos to you on this decision.
