There are some great sites out there but here is one I used a long time ago which I found to be helpful which sends you out a free pack:
Answers: Hey first of all congrats on not eating red meat anymore. I used to just eat chicken and fish and have only been a proper vegetarian for about a year or so. Meat eaters actually get too much protein so you will find that you don't need a lot. If you eat other meat you will be fine for protein but incase you're not actually eating any meat then there are lots of options. If you're not used to eating beans and lentils, tofu etc, I don't know where you live but in the US there is a LOT of meat alternatives you can buy like "not chicken" and "not burgers", sausages etc from the frozen and refrigerated sections. They have lots of protein and taste pretty good too. As for shakes, can you have dairy? If you can, then finding a protein shake will be pretty easy and will probably be in the vitamin section or therabouts at the supermarket and offer from 10 to 25 grams of protein. Here in Australia I eat a lot of Sanitarium products and use a protien shake sometimes called Natures Way. It also has plant based Omega 3 in it.

if you eat other types of meat there's no need to worry...
the difference between red / white meat is the amount of iron...
red meat is richer in iron
If you eat dairy/other meat you are probably getting more than enough protein.
If you don't eat any meat/seafood/dairy you can still get enough protein from plant sources such as beans and nuts.
If you are worried about lack of protein you could always have protein bars or protein powder- whey protein is the best in my view but if you don't want dairy you can get soy based protein powders as well.
Yes there are supplements, but why would you take them? Don't you eat other meats/fish or eggs or beans??
Chicken/turkey/poultry is not red meat and neither is salmon/tuna and other fish.
Dairy also has some protein (cottage cheese, cheese) as do some whole grain cereals/crackers/breads.
As for a supplement, whey protein is the best. Soy protein is an alternative, but is not easily digested by many.
White meats like chicken are good, also tofu and beans with rice provide complete proteins.
yes
For a protein bar I'd say Clif bars. MMMM Chocolate chip is by far the best. And shakes, just get soy protein powder and make your own! :) Just get a blender, non fat yogurt, your favorite fruit, ice and orange juice, add the powder and YUM!
yes, but if you stil eat chicken, you are probably getting the proper amount of protien. if you ever decide to totally stop eating meat: eggs, beans and nuts are great fro protien. dont bother with the shakes, they are gross anyways :)
eat beans. ^_^
If you're eating a balanced diet that's simply devoid of red meat, there is no way that you're protein deficient. Even vegetarians and vegans who eat properly have no trouble getting enough protein. Meat eaters get anywhere from 2-4x the protein they need daily and too much is hard on your body. Unless you've actually been diagnosed with a protein deficiency, you do not need a supplement.
how about beans and vegetables? broccoli has more protein per pound than beef does anyway.
Why should you lack protein? It's basically in everything. I don't eat any flesh and get most of my protein from soy products, whole grains, nuts etc.
Did you know even Orange juice and chow mein noodles have protein? You don't need as much protein as you think you do.
If you are eating a balanced diet (which does not have to include meat of any sort as your needs for all of the major food groups can be more than adequately be fulfilled by a plant based diet) then you do not need to worry about a lack of protein in your diet.
However, if you do wish to increase your intake of non-animal protein there are non-animal based (ie. vegan) protein powders and shakes available from some of the sources listed below.
These are usually hemp based - hemp also contains many other beneficial nutrients such as Omega 3 and Omega 6.
These are the type of things that vegan bodybuilders would use... one example of which is Robbie Hazeley (50+ year old vegan) who recently finished in the top ten in Mr. Universe!
