Types of Vegetarians?!

Question: I'm thinking of becoming a vegetarian but still eat/drink fish, milk, cheese, & eggs. But totally cut out all other meat..beef, chicken, pork, animal flesh....

Would I still be considered a vegetarian? Or is it hypocritical of me? Eh ya I'm kinda confused :)

I think most intelligent pescetarians don't get "angry" because someone who eats fish calls themselves a vegetarian. They might point out what they believe to be inaccurate, but anger would be a somewhat immature reaction, unless the person who eats fish and calls themself a vegetarian is being annoying and obnoxious about it. But that goes for any situation where people are being rude about what they believe.

My daughter eats only fish.. on rare occasions. To be honest, I don't t think she gives herself a label at all. Aside from the fish, she'd put most vegetarians to shame with the types of vegetarian meals she creates. Don't let anyone make you feel guilty about just eating fish. It's not like you wear a sign and send out announcements that you are a fish-eating vegetarian. If pescetarian is for you... then it's your choice. But ditch the label. You don't need to refer to yourself as any particular group... you only eat fish.

You wouldn't be a vegetarian, but you would be something called a pescetarian.

Vegetarians/vegans can get kind of angry when people who eat fish call themselves a vegetarian; so be prepared for that. :)

Good luck with following your new found pescetarianism. Maybe it will lead to true vegetarianism/veganism one day!

You would not be considered vegetarian because of the fish. A lot of meat-eaters don't realise vegetarians don't eat chicken and fish. It would be hypocritical to call yourself veggie, but if you're happy with the stage you've got to, just don't label yourself....the fact you've cut out so many other types of meat, is still contributing to bringing down the demand for meat and hence the number of animals bred to be killed. The meat you've cut down on will also now not contribute towards global warming (through deforestation and methane production). I'd be proud of how far you've come. In future, you might want to go further, you might not, it's up to yourself.

Your not a vegetarian if you eat fish.

There are several types of vegetarians:
Lacto-Ovo: do not eat meat of fish -- which includes all seafoods--; but do eat eggs, dairy products and other plant matter.

Ovo-Vegetarians: do not eat meat, fish or dairy; but do eat eggs and plant matter.

Lacto-Vegetarians: do not eat meat, fish or eggs; but do eat dairy products and plant matter.

However:

Pescetarianism is a dietary choice, in which a person — known as a pescetarian — will not eat the flesh of any animals other than types of seafood. Other animal products like eggs and dairy may be part of a pescetarian diet.

I highly recommend that you do reseach on vegetarianism before you start any of the lifestyles; so that you make sure that you get all the vitamins and minerals required for your health.

Fish are animals and they count as meat, so no no vegetarians eat them. I guess some people would call that a pescetarian, but a lot of vegans would bash you.......

If you cut out fish you would be a lacto-ovo vegetarian, if you cut out eggs and fish you would be a lacto vegetarian, if you ceased to consume dairy and fish that would make you an ovo vegetarian and If you excluded eggs fish and dairy then you would be a vegetarian, but lacto and ovo vegetarians still say vegetarian, it's a blanket term really.

I am a true vegan, but I can tell you that you are a pesco-vegetarian or flexitarian vegetarian.

But you ARE a vegetarian like so many other people of different cultures who eat a lot of plant matter but some fish and seafood. The vegetarians of the Bengali region, Okinawa, and Japan have some fish and seafood.

People who say you are not vegetarian are just wrong and do not know the world as it really is. It is NOT hypocritical. It is hypocritical for others to say you are not a vegetarian when you are.

You would not be a vegetarian if you ate fish. Vegetarians do not eat any animal.

Vegetarians don't eat animal flesh. Here's the breakdown:

BTW--Flexitarians are not vegetarians as some trolls might like to have you think.
