When someone wants to becomes vegetarian, is it better to give up beef or chicken first?!

Question: I think it's better to give up chicken first if you look at it from an ethical perspective. Chickens are smaller animals so more of them have to be slaughtered, whereas it would take a long time for a person to eat a cow. Also, chickens have absolutely no federal protection because birds are specifically exempt from the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act.

Good luck!

Good luck!

First give up the one you like the least.

yeah, give up the one to have the least and like the least, so the next step will be so much easier righ.

good luck!

Beef, because they are treated far far worse than chickens! They get their bones broken by the horrible butcher factory workers, and they get their necks slit while they're still alive! ITS HORRIBLE!

I would say beef because of the poor cows and how they're treated at the slaughter house. I went vegetarian after I saw the video and anytime I think of meat I just watch the video... it's so heartbreaking :(

I started with the largest animals first. First I gave up beef, then pork finally chicken. I'm a fish eating vegetarian so I still eat fish and seafood.

When I started, I gave up read meat. Then I slowly got to the point where I only ate chicken. It worked for me. I am now 100% meat free! Give it a try! :)

beef because it is dark meat. chicken is white meat.

go for beef....then leaving chicken will be easy

I started with cows first, then pigs, then chicken and turkey.

Ethically, give up chickens. Meat chickens have been bred to grow so fast that they can't walk after 12 weeks old. I took some chicks in as rescues and couldn't believe it when this happened. Chickens raised commercially are fed waste mixed with low quality feeds. They carry more common food illness <Campylobacter jejuni> and due to the disgusting butchering process much chicken is contaminated.

Fortunately for me, I dislike meat and have since I was a kid. I have been meat free since 1970.

In terms of lowering your position on the food chain, Chickens required less feed per pound of protein than beef.

i just gave them all up, overnight.

i still remember my last meat meal, i looked at it and said, this is it!

There is a third alternative and give it all up, why wait ?

But, if you choose to give up meat gradually I would say give up Chicken first.

my reasons:

Each time you eat chicken, its the end of one life. You'd take a year to eat a cow...so giving up chicken saves more lives

Chickens are probably the most abused of farm animals. just becasue they are small and scatty does not mean we should abuse them as we do.

Often people give up beef and stop there, they continue to eat fish and chicken.

If you give up fish and chicken first, beef is an obvious last step and you are less likely to continue eating it after giving up chickens and fish first.

Best of luck with it.

I just gave it all up one day, i saw a pig farm and thought "I'm having nothing to do with this " and stopped eating meat there and then.....28 years ago.

Beef first.
