Sweetie, I know it's terrible--but what you need to know is that unless you get your meat, dairy, and eggs from small, local, humane farms...what you saw was NOT just an isolated incident. It is much closer to the norm.

Once I started researching how my food got to my plate, my diet changed radically. I'm not one of those people who can learn the truth, then live in denial. To my extreme surprise--MANY people are. At first, I emailed all my friends the links--including my parents. I was aghast that ANYONE could eat another egg, or have a turkey dinner. But most do. So I have stopped trying to inform people who don't want to know. (My vegetarian friend who was vegan for 10 years gave me some great advice--to not become a "Screaming Vegan"--) But it's SO hard sometimes! I waited until I was 25 to try vegetarianism, and 32 until myself, my husband, and my kids (kids mostly, it was kind of a hard change...) went vegan. It's been a year now, and we feel great! (Oh, and we lost weight, and had more energy, too!)

You sound young--educate yourself--don't just listen to us! But--

If you want to know--do your research on dairy farming, and egg production-- :( Not just blatant animal cruelty, but infected udders filled with antibiotics covered with feces supplying the milk to my child's school--posters of life sized Tony Hawk asking, "Got Milk?" And bald chickens laying eggs on top of horribly decomposed cage mates. Its horrific. And unhealthy. They (factory farmers) are out for a buck, at the expense of the safety of our food. (Not to even mention the cruelty...)

I'm so sorry I ranted--You are obviously sensitive, but when I was learning of these atrocities, I was a zombie for days. But I HAD TO KNOW. Then, I could make an informed decision. And I did. Good luck, sweetie.

Wow. What? Did you just wake up after a WEEK of sleeping?

Oh please. Give me a thumbs down all you want but you really should watch the news or read the newspaper or even read the news on the computer at least once a day

are you vegetarian? if it makes you feel that way, you should be. if you have the stomach, watch www.meat.org. hosted by alec baldwin. i'll never eat another animal product for the rest of my life.

p.s. sorry it bothers you so much, it does me too. and i did see the story, it's great that people get to see the way factory farms operate.

Post the link. I think I missed that one.

I'm glad this was finally caught on camera. People need to know how much torture and bad karma goes into 'making' a steak.

PS: This happens in all slaughterhouses. It's just that they were caught in this example.

you think thats bad

you should look at this HTTP://WWW.MEAT.ORG

its the truth, veiw my blog to learn more go to ""dont be mean to cows." it is a short speech i wrote. http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-P_Rib70pd...

plz tell me when u check it out.

post the link.

please.

Yes, it's awful. I don't understand how people can treat animals so inhumanely and still be able to sleep at night.

Unfortunately, it's not just cows... in the U.S. alone, about 9 billion chickens are killed for their flesh every year and not a single federal law protects chickens from abuse. Going vegetarian is one of the easiest (and most delicious!) ways that we can prevent animal suffering.

Hi....wow. It's 11:15 pm where I live and I'm having the exact same problem...I dunno where I've been these past 23 years of my life but after seeing that same video yesterday I've been so depressed. And then if that wasn't enough "Fast Food Nation" was on tv and I happened to walk in while my husband was watching.

Now I don't know what to do. I'm so used to eating meat and I hardly ever eat my veggies. I don't wanna be one of those zombies who just deny the facts and go about their lives. I wanna make a difference and change for the better.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is you're not alone...I'm fighting the same internal battle here and all I can say is good luck and go with your gut...I am.

Thanx Kimberley W, I loved the " Broiler Chicken " video.

I saw this and many things like it. It effects me the same way, i cry, get depressed and even become angry. It truly is horrible, and i don't know how after seeing that someone can go eat any form of meat. I mean [using the idea of some things on peta2.com] it gets much harder to eat meat when you put a face on what you are eating. It was from things like this that i decided that i wanted to become a vegetarian. I no longer wanted to take part in the abuse, torture, and killing of animals just so i can have a meal!

here is a quote that i like when discussing this topic:
"The meat industry spends hundreds of millions of dollars lying to the public about their product. But no amount of false propaganda can sanitize meat. The facts are absolutely clear: Eating meat is bad for human health, catastrophic for the environment, and a living nightmare for animals." -Chrissie Hynde

There are much more humane ways of slaughtering animals, I am not going to look at your clip as I just don't think it necessary. I do eat meat, but I don't eat cheap meat, I eat meat that has come from a good source, that has had a good life and has been slaughtered without this sort of trauma. That's the best I can do as a meat eater, be responsible and try to fight this sort of mass slaughter.
