Animals used for fighting???!

Question: I'm doing a research paper on animal cruelty and one of my arguments is fighting.

1) What types of animals are used
2) What is done

And I guess another information would be awesome. I'm trying to put my outline together!!!

And other opinions about animal cruelty would be awesome too!!!

Thanks<3

Ps. I know this is not really a vegetarian question, but I figured it would fit okay here because vegetarians know a lot about animal rights. (I'm a Veg!!!!)

the following are types of organised animal fighting that i know of or have witnessed personally:

!) spider fighting - different varieties of spiders are kept in boxes (some very ornate with velvet linings) and two opposing ones are released on a piece of stick/wood. the spiders then try to eat/bite/kill/spin a web on each other. the loseris obviously the one who dies, or is cocooned in a web.
2) beetle fighting - similar spider fighting but it's more "wrestling" than actuall killing

ther are other variations of insect fighting prevalent in asia particularly China/Hong Kong. from crickets to goliath beetles. usually accompanied by heavy betting.
3) co'ck fighting - two male chickens are released in an arna and they bite or stab the heck out of each other. some fights involve the use of metal spurs up to 3 inches long that the cocks use to stab one anoter. the resulting wounds are usually fatal.
4) horse fighting - a mare in heat is tethered in the middl of teh arena and two stallions are let loose. these two then "fight" for the right to mate the mare. While fatal injuries are uncommon, they can occur.
5)) bull fighting - this you may be familiar with and while there ar humans involved, it is still using animals for "fighting". Of course it is very seldom that the bulls win
5) dogfighting - usually using pitbull breeds, two or more dogs are released inside a pit and usually end up fighting to the death. You may have seen this recently in the news involving that football player whats-his-name Vick. there is a variation in japan wherein the fights are not actually fatal but the dogs do get injured anyway.

and late but not least, "cat fighting" where two or mor human females fight and (to the fervent hope of every human male watching), rip each others clothes off. :D

The 2 main animals used for fighting are dogs (Pitt bulls) and roosters. Both animals will fight to the death. The owner (i.e. bastards) of these animals usually inject them with steroids. With the roosters they will cut off its comb (the fleshy growth on the head) With the dogs if they are not killed in a fight the owner usually zaps them with a cattle prod or beats them for losing. To train the dogs to fight they usually use a smaller dog as bait if the dog attacks they will reward it. if it does not attack they will shock it with a cattle prod to anger it to attack the other animal.

And for the people who say Pitt bulls are evil, need to get the facts straight. Pitt bulls are breed to hate other dogs and to LOVE HUMANS unconditionally. How else are you going to get a animal you beat to do as you say?

It is a cruel and evil thing what some people do to animals. :(

Cockfighting-they'll put two male chickens into a ring(each with a handler)and tie razor sharp gaffs or knives onto their legs, they will let each chicken go and they will fight on until one of the chicken dies. They do this for money, my ex-husband was a chicken fighter and till this day it makes me sick to my stomach to know all this is done for blood money...=(

Mostly male dogs, roosters, and horses are used.

They are starved, beaten, and put in a ring, usually with a female in heat. then they will fight untill the other animal goes into submission, the fight is usually provoked by humans untill one animal is dead.

The purpose is for gambling, you bet on the animal you think wins for money.

Currently (and in the USA) it is mostly dogs and roosters.

Not sure what you mean by "What is done". So, this is kind of general.

Dogs are selected on the basis of how "dog aggressive" the particular animal is. The Pit Bull tends to be very protective and territorial, so does not want another dog around. That instinct is enhanced by tossing the dog some smaller, weaker dog to kill. Contrary to some myths the fighting dog is not teased or mistreated by his owner, after all the dog has to be in good condition to fight. Encouraging the dog to kill other dogs is all that is needed.

The fight starts with the dogs in a fenced pit (this stops a dog from trying to run from a fight) at oppisite corners. The fight begins and the owners release the dogs. The fight continues until the other dog is either dead or can not continue the fight. Most of the time, the dog is so seriously injured that it is simply killed by its owner. A crippled dog is pretty useless to them. Some dogs are so evenly matched there is no clear winner and a draw is called, this is a rare event.

The Pit Bull is the most popular breed to use. They are strong, stocky, aggressive, courageous, and rarely give up a fight. Once in awhile someone will try breeding a Pit to a larger breed, like a Rottweiler or even a Great Dane. Doesn't work out too well because the larger the dog the slower it is. The standard Pit Bull is just faster than most large breeds.

I don't know anything about the Rooster fighting. I've just busted a couple of dog fighting bastards in the past.

Hope this helps.

I just think that is so cruel!

Well I think exsft covered most of the different forms of animal fighting.

Regarding factory farming, the list of cruelties and torture the animals suffer is endless. You should watch Earthlings on you tube. But be sure to have a box of tissues on hand because although it's educational it is devastating. Here is a short list of the cruelty factory farmed animals suffer:

- debeaking, teeth clipping, tail docking, castration, ear clipping, de-horning are some.
- lack of space in cramped filthy conditions
- diseases
- cannibalism
- cage madness
- starvation and dehydration
- transport with out food or water
- brutal slow and inefficient slaughter methods

LOL exsft so funny =p

google "Michael Vick"
