Vegan alternative to carmex for cold sores?!
I used to use carmex.
Then I went vegan.
And then I started getting cold sores. (I don't even know how. I don't share drinks, and I've never been kissed. Ugh. Way to reward a teen for innocent behavior.)
But I'd like to get rid of them... because now I have three. One is almost gone, but I've had it for two weeks. Another one is leaving, but I just got a new one yesterday...
Help?
Answers: I get cold sores (at least I think they're cold sores), and they stay forEVER. I hate them.

Try tea tree oil. It's a natural antiseptic and is reported to work wonderfully on cold sores.
I've dealt with cold sores throughout my entire life (that sucked as a kid), but I haven't had one since I started using tea tree oil to treat blemishes. Although I'm not sure if I can officially thank the oil, I applied it whenever I felt that telltale tingling and nothing ever appeared. If/when I do get another one (knock on wood), I will definitely use tea tree oil to treat it.
Whatever you try, I sincerely hope it works! :)
How is carmex not vegan??
okay, you need to do the following:
put cocnut oil on the sores, - it will just look like you have shiny lips.
buy kiss my face stuff, they have loads of vegan face stuff. plus go to vegan essentials. you can hunt down some good lip cures there too!
eat loads of food, - because whatever is causing your cold sores is probably of something inside you. - its like your body telling you need to eat better.
now as you go the cold sores before being a vegan, its nothing to do with your new diet!
L-Lysine supplements.

Lanolin is taken from wool. Shearing a sheep does not hurt the animal. If you do not shear a sheep its wool will get so long a shaggy that it could harm its health in hot weather. These animals were bred up for this over the years. Does getting a hair cut hurt you?
"Sheep are not harmed in the process of "harvesting" (for lack of a better word) lanolin. When sheep farmers sheer their sheep to get the wool (about once a year), they then extract the greasy Vaseline-like lanolin from the sheared wool before they wash it. Sheering the wool doesn't hurt the sheep, it's basically like getting a haircut."

You might try Burt's Bees because they are an enviromently friendly company.
L-Lysine ointment. You can find at your local health food store or online. It works 10 times better then carmex. Also, if you take l-lysine supplements you can prevent cold sores from even surfacing.
