Why Become Vegetarian?
There are as many reasons for becoming vegetarian as there are vegetarians; it's a highly personal and individual decision to make. But in a survey conducted on behalf of The Vegetarian Society the majority of people said that they gave up meat and fish because they did not morally approve of killing animals, or because they objected to the ways in which animals are kept, treated and killed for food.

With the growing awareness of the importance of healthy food, many people are also becoming vegetarian because it matches the kind of low fat, high fibre diet recommended by dieticians and doctors. Concern about the environment is another factor as people become more aware of the effect raising animals for their meat is having on the environment. Or you may be concerned about wasting world food resources by using land to raise animals for meat instead of growing crops that can feed more people directly.

Well good luck on you're change to vegetarianism, you have made a great decision.

yes and do it for your health. you will feel much better

Sure! why not. I am and it's one of the best decisions that I have made.
Good luck!

Yes you should for the animals

i am a vegetarian and i dont ever feel like i am missing out on anything. no one really bugs me about it unless they are jerks and you feel really good about yourself that you are doing something important for animals that dont have a voice. i vote yes. PEACE LOVE & HAPPINESS!

Depends. If you become a vegetarian, where will you get protein? Look up nutrients you would normally find in meat, find out what non-meat items you should eat to compensate, and then make your decision.

Just to be one with a different opinion...

No! Like all animals in this world, there is a food chain, we just happen to be on the top of it. Eat MORE meat!!! STEAKS RULE!!

First of all, let me point out that i respect all animals. I am not a vegiterian, but i can never eat steak without a HUGE bowl of salad. Let me tell you that I am not a vegiterian, yet i love vegitables more htan meat! Please do eat meat. My dad is a doctor and if you ask any doctor they will tell you that one pound of meat is equal to a months worth of vegies. Who said you can't eat Vegies WITH meat. It is ok. That is just a part of nature. If the most relious priests and Prophets ate meat meat it was because it was a part of life. Alos let put this in another perspective, if we eat steer, or steak, then guess what......... the steer would eat us. Please do me a favor and the medical community. Nothing is wrong with 12 bowls of salad with a bit of meat.

Sure, going veg is a great way to reduce animal suffering and improve your health at the same time!

There are many vegetarian foods that are rich in protein, iron, and calcium. See http://www.tryveg.com/cfi/toc/?v=08sourc... for a list.

Also, check out http://www.vegcooking.com/makingthetrans... for lots of food ideas and transition tips. Good luck.

yes. it gives a boost of energy and its harder to get sick. anytime I get sick now, i only get the snuffles. when I ate meat, I would sometimes have to be hospitalized.

It is a personal dietary and lifestyle choice that only you can make the choice of.

If it is something that you feel comfortable doing - you will have success at it.

If not - you will fail at it.

Make the choice that is best for you and one that you can live with.

My first answer:

Go watch "Meet your Meat" on peta.org and see if you have further doubts. The animals will thank you. (:

My second answer:

Yes, of course, go for it! I did it mainly for animal rights, but found out there are so many other benefits -- health and environment being the main ones. Try it for a few months and see how you feel. Don't listen to the "where will you get your protein" arguments.. these are total BS. There are PLENTY of plant-based sources of protein, and soy is the best known one. If you still decide to eat eggs/milk, you have very little nutritional worries, anyway. These are still animal-based sources of protein, so not much will change.

You only need to start worrying about nutrition if you go vegan. You'll need a source of vitamin B12. It's a little more tricky, but totally doable.

If you want to, go for it. You can get all the important things you get from meat, in other foods. When I decided to be one, no one really liked the idea but after refusing and going through a lot, they finally learned to deal with it. If you do, just eat as good as you can and stay healthy.

From a health standpoint, it will most likely benefit you and increase your lifespan a good amount. Unless you do hard physical labor on a daily basis meat is really unnecessary for you. anyways. Just make sure you eat a balanced vegetarian diet if you do!
