I have a question about Vegans?!

Question: I know vegans don't eat animals or animal made products. Does that mean they can't eat chocolate?!?! I only gave up chocolate for lent and I can't stand it, cus im a "chocoholic". Because since chocolate has milk in it does that mean that vegans don't eat it? And what about ice cream? Or cake? Gosh I don't mean to sound really 'fat' or anything but I don't htink I could live without those every once and awhile.

i eat chocolate...cocoa butter is vegan. :-)

a lot of times they add milk products so they don't have to put as much of the cocoa butter in. i find that vegan chocolate is richer and oh-so-much more satisfying...generally higher in quality, too.

there are ways around using animal products in any recipes, you just have to use the right one. vegan baked goods are often quite tasty! as for ice cream, lactose intolerance has made that a no-no for me since middle school, but sorbets and rice or soy ice creams are pretty fantastic in a pinch, and continuously getting better.

plus, as an added benefit, many vegan foods are made with more natural/less chemically ingredients.

I totally feel you! I couldn't do it either. Give me chocolate.

No, they do not eat those, however there are soy products and frozen yogurts that taste just as great, and are healthier choices for you = ]

They make vegan chocolate! A lot of dark chocolates are vegan too. Just check the labels.
They also make Rice Dream ice cream and lots of soy ice creams. There are also tons of vegan cake recipes. Look online or get a vegan cookbook.
Most grocery store have a section where they keep the organic foods, most of these items can be found there.

to replace the chocolate buy dark chocolate, that has less milk in it. You cold buy sherbert ice cream. I'm not sure about the cake situation.

If the chocolate has milk, or any animal byproduct in it, then it's not Vegan.

Traditional Ice Cream is made of milk, so it is not vegan.

There are vegan ice creams made from soy products, and Sorbet is typically just sugar, fruit, and juices.

It's easy to come by vegan chocolate and soy "ice-cream" desserts, and I make vegan cakes and cookies that taste better than anything you've ever had with milk or eggs in 'em. Vegans don't do without delicious goodies - believe you me!

(Christina: if your vegan friends drink milk, they ought to know they're not vegan.)

they dont eat anything that comes from animal products so no milk, eggs, honey, all that, so they cant have cookies and stuff unless they are made special!

You can buy dairy-free chocolate.

You can buy soy ice "cream".

You can make frozen fruit ice "cream".

You can make ice "cream" out of nuts:

You can make cakes, slices, muffins etc... without dairy and eggs.

.

well If you are a vegan than you cant eat milk chocolate. ummm, No ice cream with milk or cream, and cake... It all depends on what is in it. Congratulations for giving up chocolate for lent. I am giving up Soda!

There are delicious vegan versions of chocolate, ice cream, and other sweets. Whole Foods sells non-dairy chocolate chips that taste so good you wouldn't guess that they were dairy-free. So Delicious is one good brand of vegan ice cream. Some ice cream stores even offer a non-dairy ice cream flavor or two. It's a little harder to find vegan cake... there are lots of good recipes online though.

You can definitely be a vegan and satisfy your sweet tooth!

There are different types of 'vegans'. I don't believe there is only one way to be a vegan. Are you thinking of being a vegan? If so, a general rule would be to 'avoid eating animal flesh as much as possible'. There are vegans who eat fish and eggs. The reason you might choose to be a vegan will affect how you will eat. I feel you would choose this lifestyle for health reasons; so you would live a healthy life for as long as you can. In that case most meat produced in the west is contaminated by what they force the animals to eat. That would mean that cow's milk isn't good for you. I love chocolate, too. Here's a tip - save up and splurge on 'foreign' made chocolates and fancy cakes in really special resturants. Let yourself enjoy a little of those oh! soooo! delicious things every once in a while - that way you can look forward to treating yourself , and still not over do it. Above all DO NOT STRESS over food. It makes even 'good' foods bad for you. Moderation is the key to all of life's pleasures! Enjoy!

Well i guess not cuz i eat chocolate all the time, im a vegetarian, but milk is only made from milk cows, and milk cows arent ever slaughtered, bcuz they are ONLY used for milk. Trust me, i went to a farm as a field trip one time and they had milk cows and beef cows, & i was the only one who asked about milk cows, "Will they die 2??!! :(" & she said no!!

Well Vegans don't eat ANYTHING that is like meat but chocolate or cake? Hm I would think it is fine because I have a lot of vegan friends and they drink milk and what not , so I would say it is okay! :)
