Are there any vegetarian-friendly protein drinks out there?!
Answers: I've been a vegetarian for a while now, and last night, I told my parents. They flipped. They kept going on and on about protein, and we came to an agreement that if I drank protein drinks or shakes, they'd understand me being a vegetarian. Are there any vegetarian-friendly protein drinks out there?
I drink soy protein.
It comes in a variety of flavors - chocolate, strawberry and vanilla.
The brand I use is vegan friendly....so you know that it's good for vegetarians as well. It also contains no GMOs.
I don't have the name of it off the top of my head, but I'll post it when I get home.....
Not all protein drinks are created equally. Some of them are SO gross! I suggest you try some of the single-serving packets until you find the brand that you like. And then you can buy the huge containers. :-)
But the one I drink is mighty tasty and I highly recommend it. I mix it with my soy or rice milk and it tastes like the Nesquick Strawberry milk. (yum)
::EDIT:: It's called Soytein and the company that makes it is Solaray. I misspoke when I said that it's vegan friendly - apparently it has bee pollen in it...but it's fine for vegetarians!
No i don't think so yet......
whey. soya.
this site has great protein shakes that taste great. www.naturalw8loss4u.info. They are soy based and also very healthy.
It's virtually impossible not to get enough protein if you eat enough calories (2000 - 2500 per day)

v8!
In the USA we consume to much protein anyway. There are many veggie choices when it comes to shakes. Go to your local health food store, a Whole Foods Market or even a GNC and they should be able to help you find what you want. If you use soy milk as a base you'll get even more protein. I'd also suggest bananas or frozen fruit you help out with the yum factor.
To help your parents understand your decision you could also get some reading material for them. There are many books about being healthy and vegetarian. Try your library or a bookstore. Good luck.
Yes. Try soy protein drinks. There are many, many manufacturers and retail chains. Try GNC for example.
Welcome to the vegetarian community. A lot of my friends who are also vegetarian swear by the site below.
soy milk
But there is no necesity, because proteins are made from aminoacids, and you are intaking all the 20 essential aminoacids from vegetables ( just like those animals who eated vegetables to build their meat-the protein). Explane your parents that the human body digest the proteins to get aminoacids, and that you can get those aminoacids from vegetables too (all of them) without intaking toxins and animal hormones with meat.
All the food that you eat, you digest to small molecules (katabolism) and them your body building up your own meat and fat, the bones etc (anabolism). Its not like that you intake intake a meat and that will be your muscle in future lol
I'm sure your protein intake is fine. Most Americans get WAY too much protein. IF you are looking for a protein drink, sure, there are veggie options. Soy milk is a great source of protein. Most protein powder is 'whey' protein. So, if you are not vegan, you can drink that just fine. But really, drink soy milk, eat some nuts (cashews are GREAT!), and you will be just fine.
As long as you eat enough calories, and as long as they don't all come from junk food, it is almost impossible for you NOT to get enough protein. Your parents have bought into the pernicious myth that we need protein, protein, protein--even though excess protein is actually harmful.
But if they are really worried about it, check out Clif's Builder's Bars, which have lots of protein. I have never tried them, but they are vegan. You can get them at most natural foods stores or Trader Joe's.
