Semi sweet chocolate sans dairy?!
Answers: What kind of semi-sweet chocolate is truly semi sweet without any dairy. I haven't found any, making it impossible to make vegan cookies.
I was really suprised to find out most semi-sweet choc chips weren't vegan.
I just bought Tropical Source - by Sunspire. I got them in the health food section. It says 100% dairy free right on the package. They were the cheapest (vegan ones) at the grocery store and my vegan friend said they were the good ones. The chocolate chips sold in bulk at my local grocery store are also vegan.
Funny the recipe in the back is not vegan. I'm making puppy chow with mine :)
Try some of the premium brands at your grocery store, or better yet at a natural foods store. These tend to be less adulterated.
well i got some cookies like that at the semi's sweet choco bakery! its in hawai! i got it wen i visited hawaii!
baking chocolate is 90% pure, it has no added sugar, and if you like it, eat all you want. its very bitter though.
I don't know if you have a Whole Foods near you but they sell several kinds that are vegan.
if you go to wal-mart... yeah i know wal-mart...... well their own brand of semi-sweet doesn't have milk in them. and they taste really good too! if you can't find any try carob chips. they taste like chocolate, but are sweeter without the added sugar, and they are milk free!
If you go to a health food store you will find vegan semi-sweet and vegan carob chips. There's also a gourmet food store near my house that for some reason carries the vegan chips (and crazy rumors lipbalm!)
Sunspire is a good brand.
Look for the semi sweet ghirardelli chips.
You could use carob chips?...Here is a recipe. I have not tried it..

carob chips and dark chocolate (or bittersweet) are non-dairy. as well as cocoa powder...(it's when they add the sugar that most dairy is added in as well.)
carob is probably the best bet though. you can find it in any health food store or in the organics section of your local supermarket. it really doesn't taste much different than regular chocolate. (and if you add 1/2 a banana as your egg substitute-equal to 1 egg-you'll have a sweeter batter that will make your cookies unbelievable)
hope this helps!
