People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
PETA's animal rights campaigns include ending fur and leather use, meat and dairy consumption, fishing, hunting, trapping, factory farming, circuses, bull fighting ... Anything which is cruel to animals.

They're the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. And they're fairly nazi-ish in some of their practices, and possibly support domestic terrorist actions.
Go on youtube and look up "bull$hit peta", then go to Penn and Teller's videos on them. They'll tell you all about some of the crap they get away with.

Who says everybody is against them?
They are very popular group.

People for Ethical Treatment of Animals. The motivation of this group is "suspect" as, to me, it is not a proper use of funds to spend donation money in an attempt to influence legislators, in Florida, to pass a law giving chickens the right to freedom, and not be caged, because it's against a chicken's rights to confine them. Puh-leeeze!! (Or, .. as John Stossel would say, "Gimme a break!".) I expect that, sometime soon, they'll be campaigning to give cows, cats, dogs, etc., a vote in the next Presidential Election.
It is not normal to place animals on the same level as human beings - if this were the case, how many people would be sitting on death row for slaughtering a pig or a turkey? What follows this is prosecution of those who ate the pigs and turkeys plus the chickens (if we can catch them).
This is just another of those anti-God, anti-Bible groups trying to redefine how man should relate to the animals.
The Humane Society, ASPCA and many other orgaizations, do an adequate job, within the confines of the law, to protect animals. It is up to John and Jane Q. Public to push for stricter legislation within their, respective states.
I've had, many, pets during the past 45 years and support two groups whose main objective is to place animals with adoptive familes while they are waiting for a permanent home.
It is sad, for those who love animals, to know they are used in research but the only other option would be to use humans and this is, obviously,
the greater of the two evils.

they are an organization trying to preach to everyone about going vegetatian, even if you dont want to hear it. all they do is try to get meat, fur, or animal companies in trouble, and exploit them to the world, like any of us care. i understand thy are just trying to educate, but they are going about it all wrong. they say things about famous people that wear furs, and call them disgcusting and say things about restraunts like "kentucky fried chicken is kentucky fried cruelty" because they abuse their chickens, they need to realize that its not the restraunt that is the abusers, its the suppliers and slaughterhouses. i work in fast food, and the chickens definatley dont come live to the restraunt...they are already prepared and frozen.their new thing is that they are mad at PETCO because of the "untranned employees that allow the animals to suffer and die, in the back rooms"...basically they will do anything, including LIE to turn people vegetarian. **their site DOES have some useful information such as vegetarian friendly food lists...i just dont agree with what how they do things :)

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is the largest animal rights group in the world, with over 1.8 million members and supporters.

PETA has led some very successful campaigns to pressure fast food companies to improve their animal welfare standards. A front group for the meat, alcohol, and tobacco industries is currently attacking PETA and other animal rights groups. Companies like Tyson Foods and Perdue Farms donate to the front group, which then tries to ruin PETA's reputation and scare people into not donating to PETA. See http://www.consumerdeception.com/ for more info.

PETA doesn't run an animal shelter; it refers adoptable animals to nearby animal shelters. For animals who are injured, elderly, aggressive, or otherwise unadoptable, the organization serves as a "shelter of last resort," offering a humane death to those who would otherwise suffer a slow and painful end. There is a lot of confusion about what PETA does and doesn't do, thanks in part to the websites created by the meat industry front group.

Some people feel that PETA is too focused on getting media attention. I think PETA's perspective is that they do whatever they need to do to make people stop and consider animal rights issues. Here's some more info on PETA's tactics: http://www.peta.org/campaigns/ar-petatac...

Hope this helps.

Becase their idea's are good, and I agree with some of their policies.

However that's not good enough for PETA. If you disagree with one of their aims, you are evil and contribting to animal torture.

(Personally the thing I disagree with is animal medical needful experiments, seeing how curing diabetes in dogs kept me alive.)

That and the fact that they think it's fine to hurt people in the name of animals. Now animals being tortured is bad, but people being blown up is worse to me.

Basically, it's because they're far to OTT in their methods and ideaology. It's either all or nothing, and reality is far from that.

The name itslef is misleading. the only ethical treament of animals they really care about is to line the pockets of the officers so they won't have to get another job ever again. imagine having people give you money while letting other "volunteers" do the dirty work for you.

People are against them because they are fat a**es and they don't want to give up eating meat.

Greek Bread.

they are an organization dedicated to people eating tasty animals. everyone else is lying to youon here.
