Every establishment of the type you mentioned is required by law to have a book or plaque where all of the food items are broken down by their nutritional units, calories, carbohydrates, etc. Ask the counter person to provide or point you to that list. Therein, you'll discover if the item contains "butter fats".

It was in such a book at Dunkin Donuts that I discovered that the muffins are way higher in calories and fat than the donuts.

Usually any type of bakery item has either butter or oil in them (unfortunately)

most of them do contain butter, the only way of knowing for sure is if you ask. businesses do have a book of ingredients for everything they make, if the business has kosher certification then they dont use butter an thats another way you'll know
