Vegetarians and fish...?!

Question: I recently have become a vegetarian. For me, I don't eat fish, but I know some vegetarians do? Just wondering, why is this? Can you actually be a true vegetarian and eat fish?

Also, I have always loved sushi! Which will actually be the hardest thing to give up. So what are the best vegetarian sushi rolls?

Vegetarians who eat fish are NOT vegetarians. They are classified as Pescatarians.

Luckily there are a few sushi places where I live that offer vegetarian options.

Some rolls include:
Cucumber & Daikon
Cucumber & Carrot
Cucumber & Avocado
Philly Roll (Cream Cheese, Avocado & Cucumber)

Don't forget the Edamami

No, you cannot be a vegetarian and eat fish. This is one of the things that gives vegetarians a bad rap. I eat sushi and I catch my own fish. I am not a vegetarian, but an occasional meat eater. People can call themselves what they want, but fish IS meat. If you want to eat your sushi, just don't worry about labels. If you want to take fish out of your diet, I recommend going to a sushi restaurant and looking and experimenting the various rolls, as there are so many. I also make my own veggie sushi, so I experiment alot with different ingredients. You can google search "Nori Sushi" (veggie sushi rolls) or "Vegetarian sushi rolls". There are many links with recipes and instructions on how to roll them.

This is a good site with a video on how to roll. It also includes different recipes. Sorry about the fish recipes, I posted it for the video.

Making sushi at home is a trick at first, but when you get the hang of it, it's a lot of fun. Vegetarian sushi is one of the things that helps keep my meat intake down.

Some of my favorite ingredients.

avacados
carrots
cucumbers
pickled ginger

You can also use

canteloupe slices
papaya slices

Veggies like tomatoes or other juicies are not recommend, it just turnes to mush. If you want to try juicy veggies and/or fruits, use sun-dried.

NO VEGETARIANS do not eat FISH. and THOSE WHO EAT FISH ARE SIMPLY NOT VEGETARIANS!!!.. you cannot be called a vegetarian and you eat non veg items!!!

Fish are animals not plants. so no fish is not vegetarian. Sorry I dont eat sushi so I dont have any good recipes. good luck though.

vegetarians do not eat fish.

There are people who call themselves vegetarians and eat fish, thats a different thing.

All the main veggie groups in the world say veggies don't eat fish, the difinition ( see my profile ) has been that way since 1847.

If people want to go against that, good luck to them, it doesn't mean they are right though.

As for the rest of us, we'll continue to fight the "oh, so you eat fish?" comments and take it in our stride.

people who's meat intake is only fish are pescatarians.
Note, a pescitarian is NOT a "vegetarian who eats fish", they are "a person who restricts thier meat intake to fish only"

Fish aren't vegetables so anyone who eats fish has no right to call themself a vegetarian.

The day a carrot swims in the sea or a cod grows from the ground they will become vegetarians.

There are sushi rolls that don't contain fish; they often contain avocado. I don't know very much about Japanese food, but I know I've seen that.

Real vegetarians don't eat any kind of animal.

Some people call themselves vegetarian, eat fish, and sometimes other animals.

It's confusing, but there's really nothing to stop some people from using a word incorrectly and sometimes even starting a trend where large numbers of people do so.

My sister in law (from India) was living in Georgia and heard some store had "mangos for sale." It turned out that "mangos" were really green bell peppers.

Some people said rock and roll pioneer Buddy Holly was playing "bebop" when that was really a name for a type of jazz originated by Charlie Parker. Buddy Holly never sounded remotely like Charlie Parker but that didn't stop some people from saying he played "bebop."

No vegetarian eats fish. People may call themselves vegetarian and eat fish but it does not make it true. Vegetarians do not eat dead animals period.

As far as sushi, most places have vegetable sushi made with avocado, cucumber, ginger, rice and seaweed.
