Hi Kate, I'm sure we are not ALL the same.

If people (like me - wish to eat meat, that's fine)!

(Please don't take away my bacon buttie!)

I also have NO objection to vegetarians. We have choices and No - One - is on this earth to judge, - I do not - Please
enjoy your broccoli and carrot bake - - - like I do at times.

There is one thing for sure........I'm nearly 60 and I REFUSE to grow up.........Have fun........xxxxx !

Thank you for your rating, I hope you have a "fab" weekend. If not I will kick your bum........

Enjoy.........Be Happy..........xxx ! Report It

  • That is why I rarely visit this section it is pathetic! Try the other food and drink section.

Who cares? swede is lovely...try this recipie, it makes yummy swede and rosemary skewers:
    Ingredients
    2 tbsp olive oil
    1 swede, peeled
    4 rosemary stalks
    1 orange, juice only
? orange, peeled and cut into segments
    2 tbsp soft brown sugar
freshly ground black pepper, to season

    Method
    1. Bring a large pan of water to the boil.
    2. Cut the swede into bite-sized chunks and boil for 7-8 minutes or until tender.
    3. Drain the swede and allow to cool.
    4. Skewer the swede onto the rosemary stalks, to make four skewers.
    5. Heat the oil in a griddle pan over a medium heat.
    6. Chargrill the skewers in the pan for 5-6 minutes.
    7. Add the orange juice, orange wedges, and sugar to the pan and cook for a further few minutes or until the swede is golden.
    8. Remove from the heat and transfer the swede skewers and orange wedges to serving plates.
    9. Season with black pepper and serve.

Swede: cook and mash with butter and lots of black pepper and perhaps grated nutmeg.

I agree. I've never been in that section, but it's the same in other sections. in the football section people fight about their favorite teams, in the wrestling section people fight about wrestlers and companies, etc.

Who cares what you eat? You made a choice to be a vegetarian, for whatever reason. No one else has a say in that.

It's just stupid people looking for their 2 points.

Many meat eaters seem to treat us veggies like we are attacking them by not eating meat... Stupid really.

On the swede front, I would use it for

    a) Mashed swede with mashed potato mixed in
    b) Roasted
    c) In a vegetable soup.

I love mashed swede with butter, it's like custard in the comfort zone. If you put it with mashed potato, I think it's called clap shot in Scotland.
Have you tried thin chips made out of swede? I mean I haven't but it's an idea.

I try to ignore the ignorance of others. My opinion...and only my opinion is that what the heck are people doing in the vegetarian section if they have a "beef" with vegetarians. Some people have nothing better to do but be negative towards others. I feel ya!! Wish I could help you with swede recipes but I'm not sure I know what it is. Is it in the Rutabaga family? If so...mash it and season it with some salt, pepper and nutmeg and melted butter. Put in individual containers and freeze. Yummy. But like I said, I'm not sure what it is exactly. Will look it up now. : )

I like to roast them with other winter veggies like sweet potatoes and carrots. Cut all of the vegetables into similar sized chunks, throw them into a plastic bag with olive oil, salt, pepper, and chopped fresh rosemary and toss until the veggies are well coated. Put them on a shallow baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees (F) until tender, stirring from time to time. They will store in an airtight container for up to a week in a refrigerator.

Swede and potatoes mashed is great, also you can't have haggis without Swede, in fact Swede with almost anything is good.

swede and celeriac cooked together mashed with butter and black pepper. swede and carrots done the same. both can be done as croquettes in breadcrumbs.

Trolling normally occurs when people see the questions from the "Answers" main page, it takes a lot more ingenuity for people to wander into "Vegetarian & Vegan" section intentionally.

Nonetheless, My major purpose here is to help out new "V & V's" with nutrional, dietary assistance as this my area of formal study. I do personally get a little ticked when people come in here asking what type of fish to eat? or how they should go about eating a "flexitarian" omnivore diet. Those questions should be asked in another forum. As well, a majority of food questions would be better of in the "Food & Drink" forum, unless they are incredibly V & V specific, which a good many are.

if we don't want to eat meat we don't have to.
enjoy your killing animals-we don't care.
we just don't wish to take part in the killing of living, breathing things.
most of us couldn't care less if you eat meat-its simply our choice.
    enjoy your burger.

I would venture to guess that greater than 45% of all Y!A users are trolls. The sections that cause the most heated debates draw them. Vegetarian and Vegan seems to be one of them, and there are trolls on both sides of the fence in this section.

Well then ask your question about swede. Nobody careas, this is a food and drink forum under which V&V is a section. There is no card carrying veggies in the world and no one asks to see ID. Besides I am a flexatarian veg and i have all the right in the world to be here.

its the lack of essential minerals from not eating meat also makes veggies aggressive and narrow minded

Do what you like with it. Mashed swede goes lovely with a bit of braised steak

You would be more calm if you ate meat more often.

Because of questions like this. I luuurve meat!
