I hate it when people say meat eaters are "flesh eaters" or worse, trying to somehow push disgusting imagery of rotting meat into meat eater's minds, as if that were anything but offensive. It's not persuasive at all...

I also hate when people say humans cannot eat/digest meat. We are omnivores, we can choose to eat a plant based diet or eat a meat-and-plant diet.

Above all I don't think it's wrong to eat meat, I just think supporting the meat industry is wrong. The cruelty to animals, the factory farm waste, the impact on the environment and the fact that it is not natural to "farm" our meat, especially in such conditions.

What is natural is to hunt - and in fact, I have NO problem at all with people who hunt and gather exclusively for their food because they are probably the only human beings with a completely natural, ecologically-sound relationship with the earth and the ecosystem.

My husband eats meat occasionally, my entire family (but me) eat meat and so do many friends and other loved ones. I have nothing against meat eaters and refuse to have preconceived notions.

I choose not to eat meat because I feel satisfied, healthy and pleased with an entirely plant-based diet. I don't need anything to die to satisfy my taste buds. That is just me and my choice and I respect and coexist easily along those that think otherwise.

I just thought I'd clear that up.

you forgot that we are cruel and heartless and we don't care about animals

I don't think there are many misconceptions. I'm married to one- he's a doctor, and a great guy. He's also the first to admit that my diet is healthier than his.

Lol, you asked for misconceptions and DM provided you with one - why have a go at him?

I agree that some veg*ns using this board will repeat so-called 'facts' about meat without providing any references, including 'meat gives you cancer'; these reflect their own prejudices rather than any research on their part.

Personally I squirm with embarrassment when I see the 'god says we should/shouldn't' type of argument, but I think you have to admit it comes from meat-eaters more often than from veg*ns.

As for meat-eaters themselves - I have no misconceptions because I have no preconceptions at all. Meat eaters are a diverse group, with varying ideas, politics, interests and views - just as veg*ns are.

I really hate seeing people trying tno say that humans were not designed to eat meat. However, I will hold back and not go into that here. This is a vegetarian forum. I got sucked into this forum with one qustion, and I am trying not to offend anyone. This is the vegetarian forum. There are plenty of people trying to discuss healthy ways to form a diet without meat. There are some people who base this on faulty evidence and pure emotions, but that is their right. If you really want to prove people wrong, find the evidence. Chances are they won't want to listen anyways.

And I think DM was agreeing and saying that fellow meat eaters (the said "we") are called heartless, not saying that you are heartless.

Not everyone has misconceptions about meat eaters or vegetarians. Just the fanatics. Most of us are content to eat what we want and afford others the same courtesy.

Everyone has misconceptions about everybody. I can count the number of people I have met in my life willing to walk a mile in another person's shoes on one hand.
