Is vegan bacon wrong?!
Answers: im vegan-- is it wrong to eat vegan 'bacon' because it's specifically MADE to look &taste like the real thing? i mean isn't the so ruining the point of it??
my thought is no, but i dont touch the stuff anyway. Reminds me of those dog treats.
No it's not. No animals were exploited to make it so it's vegan.
Just because it looks like bacon or tastes like it isn't wrong! What animal looks like bacon? If you were to eat raw, unsmoked, uncured pork, that would be nasty. Bacon tastes good because of the curing and smoking process. So does the vegan stand-in - it's just a smoked, well-prepared vegan TVP concoction. It doesn't even look like or represent real animal meat. Many people forget that meat in itself is hardly attractive to the palate, save for some rare finds. It is always the preperation process. Same goes for burgers, hot dogs, etc. If it's a vegan version, so be it, it fits recipes well, it's convenient and it tastes good.
No animals were exploited to make it. It's ingredients list checks out. That's all it needs to be vegan.
honestly, I think that it is not wrong as long as it isn't animal related. eating real bacon would be wrong. but mentally it is very very wrong lol.
its not 'wrong'. eating meat is not 'wrong'. its a choice
Some people like the taste of meat but don't eat it because they do no support the cruelty to the animals. They appreciate products like that. Fake meats are especially good for new veg*ns, they have familar tastes and textures which helps some people resist cravings.
I don't think it's wrong at all. I loved the taste of bacon but after I became vegan I couldn't eat it anymore. Vegan Bacon is not made from pigs. It is different because no animals were brought up in a filthy cage only to one day die at the hands of an unskilled slaughterer. Go ahead and eat it. It doesn't contribute to the horrors of the industry and you do like the taste, so nothing wrong in my opinion.
Animals were put on this planet for food. I don't agree with how animals are treated nowadays, but it's a reliable source of food. As for vegan bacon, I've never heard of it, but isn't the whole point of bacon meant to be a nice sizzling portion of meat?
It's not wrong from your point of view becasue it uses no animal products however it may seem wrong to you personally, in which case, don't use it x
No it's not wrong. Veg*ns eat fake meats for a number of reasons, including the fact that they liked meat and miss it but don't want to eat it.
But mainly it's just a convenient way to flavour and shape food to form the centrepiece of a meal, just as it is when meat is used - after all no animal is shaped like a rasher of bacon, or a sausage or burger is it?
No it's not ruining the point of anything - people generally become vegans in order to minimise their contribution to animal suffering and exploitation; fake meats cause no animal suffering or exploitation.
I eat vegan bacon from time to time to add extra flavours and textures to my diet; it's delicious.
no it's right
well in a way I can see your point. I cant eat vegan meat because it just reminded me of when I was a meat eater and I didnt like that. You just have to keep in mind that some people find it hard to give up meat that was once very tasty to them. This eases their transition.
That depends- was it made by Procter & Gamble? (just kidding...)
Consuming meat analogs is not wrong. There are no value judgements involved with eating food that "looks" like meat.
And they are very convenient foods when making the transition to a plant-based diet.
It isn't the healthiest substance in the world, however. As long as you don't make heavily processed foods the main part of your diet, it's just fine.
no.. if you like the taste of it.. eat it.. the point of it that no animal got hurt...
There is nothing wrong with it at all.
There's nothing "wrong" with meat anaolgs... except that most of 'em taste gross, but I digress...
I'm not vegan because I'm opposed ot the taste of bacon... bacon is delicious! I'm vegan because I'm opposed to the cruelty, the social injustice, the health hazards, and the damage to the envoronment that stems from the exploitation of animals. All of the taste with none of the cruelty... everybody wins!
Of course, vegan bacon is not "wrong" for vegans to eat from the standpoint that no animals were exploited in its production.
However, vegan faux meat products (like the Boca and Morningstar stuff you get in the grocery store freezercase) do have some problems that are more subtle. A healthy vegetarian diet is not one that exactly resembles a meat diet with all the animal products replaced with surrogates. A healthy vegetarian diet (as you know) has increased fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes, and importantly, it's much more satisfying and fulfilling this way, as well.
Therefore, if you're concerned about public reception of vegetarianism, a veggie diet based on meat substitutes suggests to the world that vegetarianism is merely a poor shadow of a meat diet, rather than the independent, totally fulfilling diet that it is.
As with all similar aspects of diet and lifestyle, it's totally up to you what's "wrong" or "right," but even within the framework of the points that I just raised, I don't see how indulging in a little veggie bacon now and then is a problem.
No animal has died for it so what is so wrong with making it look similar to it's meat alternative? It doesn't taste like real bacon however it does taste good.
I know there are some vegetarians that prefer not to eat meat look a likes and there are those like myself that like to eat them on occasion. There is no right or wrong here it's all about what YOU feel comfortable with eating.
No. It IS the point. The point is to not cause suffering in the animals and it's achieved this way. Do you actually believe that they didn't eat the pork bacon because of the way it looked? It doesn't taste like pork bacon so that is a moot point.

vegan bacon is so wrong-because man did we get pork bacon right!!! YUM, bacon-the #1 reason I'll never be fully vegetarian!
