Yes, although he took his policies of non-violence a bit too far, to the point where it bordered on lunacy. For example, he advised the Jews to escape Hitler by committing suicide. He also preferred to look the other way when religious genocide took place in India, claiming that submission was better than resistance.

Actually, today, Gandhi would be considered a "flexitarian". If he was offered meat in a sensitive political or social situation he would take it rather than create a fuss.

He was a great fan of a good English Beef Wellington prepared by the chef to the last British Viceroy, Lord Louis Mountbatten. He also would eat meat brought to him by people who did not know of his preference for vegetarian dishes for fear of offending them.
