Heyy is tofu good for you in the long run?!

Question: my friend and I would like to go vegetarian so we need to know if it is okay for you

Answers: my friend and I would like to go vegetarian so we need to know if it is okay for you

Tofu is very good for you, and it's a great protein source. There is some debate regarding whether soy is good in the long run, but that only applies to very large amounts of it. Tofu is also fairly close to its natural state, which makes it even better for you! Soymilk is also pretty good, but just don't drink too much of it. You can also try oat milks, almond milks, sunflower seed milks, etc., if you are vegan.

Mock meats, although they are fine, are actually the worst way to eat soy (tofu, basically). They are very mutilated from their original state. However, many new veggies and vegans consume lots of mock meats, but then usually as they have been following the lifestyle for longer, they don't crave meat very much.

Don't be daunted by my long and maybe scary explanation: eat your tofu - just don't take an overdose (eg., tofu at every meal).

I love tofu - and so do all my vegetarian friends!

  • It's better than Captain D's! Actually, I think it is pretty good for you.

As long as it is Organic Tofu.
Do you know how they grow the soy beans used to make Tofu?
They take a field and spray the whole thing with round up vegetation killer.
Then they till it, and plant the soybeans.
When the whole field gets to be about 1 and a half to 2 feet high, they spray the entire field with roundup again., to remove the weeds from the field. They have genetically modified soybeans to be resistant to round up. they are called round up ready seeds. There is no way you can tell me that the round up is not getting into the food that your eating. So please get the Organic. At any rate, if your going vegetarian, make sure you get enough protein in your diet, or you will become Anemic. and get very sick. you can do a lot of damage to your body if you do not know what your doing.

yes tofu is very good for you its high in protein too, but you get anemia from a lack of iron, not protein as the person above said. protein is the #1 most lacking nutrient in the world.

Tofu is good for you, however, there has been controversy over soy products in general lately and there is a fair bit of information available on the internet and in health magazines regarding the issue. Unmodified unprocessed soy seems to be healthy options. Items like tempeh and edamame are excellent choices. However, tofu in moderation, still seems to be beneficial to your diet. Organic tofu is a better alternative to the inexpensive Chinese brands found on the market.

    fudge yeah!

Tofu is good for you because it is made out of soybeans, which are high in protein, low in fat, and also contain important minerals (like iron, which as you know, is an important component of any vegetarian diet).

The controversy surrounding soy products revolves around people who eat too much soy, and depend on it too much as a source of protein. The bottom line is, too much of ANY one food isn't good for you in the long run.

So, yes, some soy - somewhere between 3 and 7 servings a week, let's say - is definitely a healthy part of a long-term vegetarian diet, as long as you make sure that you're not overly dependent on it.

Another food to try is tempeh, another product made out of soy. Because it is fermented, tempeh is easier to digest and your body is able to get more nutrients out of it. I personally prefer tempeh to tofu and many people who have trouble digesting tofu find that they can still eat tempeh with no problem.

all food sources are good for you as long as your remember moderation...this applies to all foods vegetarian or not, you just have to find a right balance and im sure it will be fine, personally never had tofu but go for it.

Tofu and soy products have estrogen, and if you eat too much, then you could get cancer. But of course, which food/vitamin wouldn't do that? Just don't depend on it and eat too much. I don't know much about what happens when you have too much estrogen. I believe it's mostly bad for children/teenagers and women. You should search that on Yahoo Answers. It is good for you though. Healthy, low in fat, delicious, etc. I love tofu and soy products, but I don't eat it that often. Hope you and your 'friend' find what you're looking for!
By the way, you should've been more specific with your question. Everyone else is talking about the nutrients, when I'm more concentrated on the estrogen.
