I want to be a vegetarian... help !!?!
Answers: I want to become a vegetarian, but I'm only 14 and am forced to eat whatever my parents make. I have tried a couple times, but my parents don't take me seriously. I told my dad I wanted to become a vegetarian, and he decided to have steaks for dinner. Please help. I'm not old enough to get a job so I can buy my own food because I know my parents aren't going to buy any for me, so I need some ideas. I'm out of ideas
hmm..my parents laughed at me when i told them
and they ALWAYS have meat...i just
make myself peanut butter & jelly
or grilled cheese or something
so i dont have to eat that
& maybe you should sit down with them and have
a serious talk and tell them u really want to be one
dont eat meat. live your life
Stick It under the table and give it to the birds later.
Have a serious take with your parents
good luck
You can actually get a job as a bagger or a cart person at most grocery stores. Vegetarian food is expensive.
you have a good reason to now, since beef was recalled.
=]
i am a vegitarian.
i buy those little frozen singles vegatables and put them over pasta or eat them plain.
buy a recipe book for vegitarians
Get new parents.
just refuse to eat unless you have soy or something.
i've been a vegetarian since I was 12, my parents hate it.
if your parents are cooking then its very hard and if you cook for yourself you may be missing out on nutrients.for now i would say leave the meat until they realize you are serious.
Well, thats to darn bad for your parents. Nurtricious wise parents, would allow their children to eat proper food that includes veggies of all kind and also fruit. It's great that you want to be a vegetarian.
My advice, you can baby sit and earn your own money right? If you have a home in which you have a back yard , prepare your self a little garden. Maintain it with the veggies that you would like to eat. Than go to a book store, purchase a vegetarian cook book. Here you can learn how to prepare most vegetarian meals.
I hope this helps! There is always ways around them.
I'm 16 and have pretty much been a vegetarian all my life. Parents should respect your personal beliefs, it's like religion. I'd hunger strike or something :/ However that's not really wise.. lol!
Avocado
Asparagus
Capsicum(bell pepper), red, green ,yellow
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Carrots
Sweet Potato
Onion, ordinary
Lettuce
Tomatoes
Olives
Onion, Red
Garlic
Ginger Root
Cabbage, ordinary

Cabbage, red
Silverbeet (Swiss Chard)
Celery
Brussels sprouts
Potato
Kidney beans
Psyllium
And some fruits, used with care:
Strawberries (fresh)
Blueberries (frozen)
Pears
Limes
Apples
Oranges
In my garden there are veges in season, hot chili peppers and herbs - thyme, basil, rosemary, oregano, sage, lavender and mint. In "drygoods" I have lentils, brown rice, barley, psyllium, guar gum, flax seed, kidney beans, cornflour etc. And a large range of spices. I've probably missed some - but I think you get the picture. You do what you wish; I added each thing individually over time, and had to experiment a bit.
But, to repeat myself, it's amazing what you can learn to like once you accept that your life depends on it.
tell your perents how you feel, like i hate most meat n when we have meat i eat the side dish or just have a saled or even soup n what your dad did was really mean im sorry i just think that is terrible thing to do to your daughter
Tha was my problem but you have to think if you really want to do this. If your going to give up alot then its not right for you. BUt if you are willing to do this then you you have to sit your parents down look them in the eye and tell that you need to do this for you and that you dont like meat. If they say no wirte a million things why you should be a veg. That awlays works!
Well, eat as many veggies as u can when ur not forced to eat meat, but also try to prove to ur parents about the veggetarian stuff, its hard, good luck!
Well, it is fair and reasonable for your parents to expect to cook only 1 meal. Its their house not a restaurant. It's not too darn for them. They are still 100% responsible for your helath and well being, and right or wrong they get to make the choices about your nutrution.
I think the best you can do is try and educate them, express your wishes, along with whatever reasons you have, health, moral, etc, as well as offer to cook your own meals or meat substitutes. I'd say even then though, you'll often have to accept the house rules.
i'm sure they fix things without meat sometimes don't they? when they serve vegetables with dinner just eat the vegetables and some bread. hang in there. eventually they will get that you are serious. they are not gonna let you go hungry i'm sure parents can be a little thick headed at times. good luck. i have also tried to be vegetarian but still eat fish and chicken on occasion.
do stuff around your house to get money to get the food you want.
Ew, Ew, Ew, I cannot stand the thought of eating nothing but vegetables and stuff... But anyway I'm 15 and I've had a job for over a year now, I will now tell you how to get one... Your principle will have to sign something say that you are aloud to work and stuff. However, it's not easy to get, you have to have good grades, really good grades, and keep like that. AND they can tell you no if they want to. Another thing, being a vegetarian is unhealthy if not done right, you have to be careful.
if you are passionate about it then have a long talk with your parents, however i must stress because you are very young your bady is growing rapidly and it may be very difficult for you to get all the necessary nutrients to promote growth, i would suggest seeing a doctor so he can shed some light on how you might be able to be a vegetarian at a young age and still grow properly.
As several other people have mentioned, there are a lot of everyday foods that are vegetarian. As for buying a cookbook, they are great but at 14 that probably isn't your best option. There are a lot of great and totally free recipe websites geared toward vegetarians/vegans (my favorite is http://www.vegweb.com). I would list them here but it is probably easier for you to do a ChaCha or Google search for vegetarian recipes.
Do you know any vegetarians? Maybe you could have them give you a cooking lesson or at least some advice. I know when I became vegetarian at 16, my family didn't take me very seriously at first. I proved to them by cooking all of my own food and educating myself about vegetarian nutrition that I was dedicated to vegetarianism. Although my dad still makes the occasional joke about me giving up my place on the food chain (I contend that until someone eats me, I'm still last on the chain), they now respect my decision/lifestyle.
Best of luck!
And i want to be the king of the world unfortunately that can't happen now can it??
Im not a vegetarian , but I gave up red meat and am a teenager. My suggestion to you is to go to the grocery store with your parents. Try things like Veggie Crumbles in tacos, and in "meat" sauce. When you are at the grocery store, suggest buying those products made with soy. Not just tofu, but other things that look more appealing. (Although personally I love tofu =)). Good luck, and just think...once you get to college! .... YOU ARE FREE!!!! .. to become a vegetarian. =) Hope I helped.
here's what I do. My mom usually makes a vegetable, a carb (noodles, potatos ect) and a meat. I'll just take extra of the vegetable and the carb and no meat. I'll usually wait till everyones got their food and I'll take whats left.
If they have hamburger helper or something I can't eat I'll have Campbell's vegetarian vegetable soup or something like that.
Why Become Vegetarian?
There are as many reasons for becoming vegetarian as there are vegetarians; it's a highly personal and individual decision to make. But in a survey conducted on behalf of The Vegetarian Society the majority of people said that they gave up meat and fish because they did not morally approve of killing animals, or because they objected to the ways in which animals are kept, treated and killed for food.
With the growing awareness of the importance of healthy food, many people are also becoming vegetarian because it matches the kind of low fat, high fibre diet recommended by dieticians and doctors. Concern about the environment is another factor as people become more aware of the effect raising animals for their meat is having on the environment. Or you may be concerned about wasting world food resources by using land to raise animals for meat instead of growing crops that can feed more people directly.

Well good luck on you're change to vegetarianism, you have made a great decision.
you can covince them go to peta.org
and on the hompage is a video of what they do to animals and how they kill them
maybe then they will say its okay
but if not then i dont know
sorry
Just stop eating meat.
Put your foot down and tell you parents that you are not eating any meat that they put in front of you. They will have to adjust to that. I was only 13 when i did that and now its been a year and a half!
way to go on wanting to become a veg and good luck! =)
im 12 and i have been a vegetarian about a year
Start by only eating animals that eat vegetables.
dont be a veggitarian it will ruin your life
You're too young to be a vegeterian. your body needs proteins and vitamins from all foods, not just veggies.
Why do you WANT to be a vegetarian, anyway?
