Soy milk, is it fresh??!

Question: I bought soy milk 2 weeks ago and had some right away but have not finished the whole thing yet, but on the top of the carton it says it needs to be finished between 7-10 days?? The experiation date says that it's good until March 24, meanwhile! So what should I do, the milk is not chunky or weird it's a good consistency, I just am not sure if it's still good to drink? It's my first time trying soymilk (I like it so far) and I am not sure what to do, I don't want food poisoning!

My wife and I have been using Silk Soy Milk, the chocolate flavor, vanilla flavor, and "egg nog" flavor, for at least a couple of years now, and it's GREAT. I wouldn't use anything else, although the WalMart brand of chocolate soy milk is richer in the chocolate flavor. We buy by the expiration date, which gives us more than enough time to use it up, which we always do. I'm not sure a gallon will last 7-10 days, but she buys the 2-carton pack and has also bought the 3-carton pack, and we've used it up in time and have NEVER had bad tastes or any ill effects from it. I hope this helps. God Bless you.

You wouldnt get food poisoning for bad soy milk. I would just follow your instincts drink it if it tastes good and smells good. Its most likely still good to drink.

Your soymilk is still fine. It doesn't go bad like cow boy fluids do. If it smells fine, and is a good consistency it's okay to drink.

use your instincts - does it taste ok?
if it does then drink it! :)

it sounds good to me. the used by date is just an indication. I still use soy milk a few days after the date. but i check that the smell and consistency ok. I'm pretty sure it sounds good. You can try long life soy milk which has a longer shelf life. I like sanitarium light soy milk or Bliss chocolate flavoured soy milk. There are different brands in different countries too.

Soy milk is healthy, but the downside is that it spoils quickly.

The experiation date of March 24, 2008 is only in effect as long as the carton has not been opened and is kept in a room temeperature environment out of the sun.

The experiation use of 7 - 10 days is in effect one it has been opened and left in the re-fridgerator. After the 9th day, it will begin to poil and not taste, look or smell good haha -- learned that the hard way --.

I don't think brand matters, but I suggest that you buy soy in cartons that are not pre-refridgerated as they last longer and are more echonomical in value because you can control how long it begins to expire before the general experitation date and the 10 day experition date. If you buy pre-refridgerated soy it spoils faster than the non-refridgerated soy.

I use RiceSoy and VitaSoy. They make a variety of flavours and claim to be organic so they are healthier for you.

Expiration dates are for SEALED containers. Once you open it, they suggest 7-10 days.

If it smells and tastes fine, it is.
