Being a vegetarian? Should i stick with it? Please some help!?!


Question: I have been a vegetarian for about 1 month. I do not eat any meats or fish. My family was supportive for the first couple days but after i gave up any seafood it turned into a big arguement. My mom is still supportive but doesnt know why i do it.

Living in an itllian family my mom makes meat almost everday. She makes me a side without it or just something different..

I really really want to do it but sometimes it is really hard. Like my favorite favorite food was top ramen noodles chicken flavor. But the packet contains chicken fat i checked i have had some different veggie ones but they are not as good...

Being at such a young age i cannot make my self those cool dinners goveg.com and stuff like that. My mom also think it is un healthy!

But what i really want to know is doing all of this really worth it. I really want to be a vegetarian becasue after seeing some videos it changed my life..

Please just some advice thank you so much!

I know its hard when your family all eat meat, mine do it all the time! You should never pressure anyone but if a few of them are willing to at least listen to your reasoning and the facts about it (also the facts about why being vegetarian is actually really healthy) they may at least understand your choice a little more and your mum might be willing to help you out with some of those recipies! Of course my family didnt go vegetarian but my parents make the effort to at least go organic now
One of my favourite foods was chicken noodles aswel and I was gutted when I found out they used chicken fat in it too but suprisingly, I dont miss it. You get used to it over time to be honest. Experiment with all the different substitutes aswel, some of those are cooked in a similar way to the normal meats. There are loads of different types of substitues about aswel so try lots of different ones till you find the one you like (also, just because you like the sausages in one brand you may not like the bacon in the same one so mix and match)
Keep on watching the videos about animal slaugher ect (I know you have to be in right mood though!) I recommend Earthlings which you can find on youtube. I also read some quotes from famous vegetarians aswel to just remind me why its so important and I love having that in common with some of those amazing role models! If you have any pets you could spend a little time with them aswel, I cant really see the (emotional) difference between a dog and say a cow or chicken and I know i'd never harm my doggies!

  • being a vegetarian is totally up to you. don't feel pressured to eat meat, but ask yourself why your doing it. do you not like the way meat tastes? are you against the killing of animals for food? maybe it's something else. last year I have up meat and fish for Lent. it was the hardest thing I ever did. the toughest part was cooking meals. I ended up eating more junk food than anything else. remember this is your decision. good luck.

    You can eat Italian and still be a vegetarian.

    It is completely worth it, if you truly believe in it. Becoming a vegetarian is one of the best things I have ever done. I feel better about my health, the environment, and all the animals I'm saving by not eating meat. It's hard at first, but you'll get through it. Just try to do some research and explain to your parents how you really feel, and all the advantages of being vegetarian. I understand what you're going through; my parents were not thrilled either. They eventually got used to the idea, and I bet yours will too.

    And you don't have to fix fancy meals to be a vegetarian either! There are plenty of microwavable meat substitutes, such as Boca burgers and Morningstar Farms products. Just zap it for a minute, put it on a bun, and voila! If you like Ramen, try Annie Chun's noodle bowls, or Simply Asian packages. I won't lie, those products are kind of expensive, so don't forget to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables along with your diet. You can do this! Good luck!

    Chances are your mom resents your decision because you're making her do all the work. If you're eating something different than what everyone else is eating, you should be preparing the food yourself. And if you don't know much about preparing food, then learn! Watch your mom in the kitchen a lot, and talk to her about ways to prepare vegetables, pasta, and other stuff you like. The more you communicate about your diet, the more supportive she'll be. Also, you should keep a couple pre-prepared vegetarian things in the freezer in case you get into a tight spot--there are also many canned soups that make a great last-minute meal for a vegetarian. Don't totally rely on the pre-prepared stuff, though; that gets expensive and othen unhealthy. Learning to cook is key; on top of it, you should do research on the nutrients you need and learn how to shop for food. If you intend to be a vegetarian your whole life, this is a crucial skill. Overall, it's important for you to talk with your family about your choices and why you made them--be honest and open, but don't be negative or accusatory. Chances are they'll warm up and all of your lives will be easier.

    I applaud your decision because it is a step towards a kinder world. I don't know how old you are, but if you're old enough to write this well, then you should be able to cook or at least prepare some simple foods. The Italians have a lot of great non-meat entrees, like ravioli, manicotti, cheese tortellini, eggplant parmisan, lasagne and stuffed shells. You could make those for your whole family once a week or so and maybe they would be more open to your decision. You make the vegetarian ramen taste better and give it a little protein by cracking an egg into it. Or put a bit of olive oil in the broth. Or add some vegetables that you like. I think it is worth it because we should not partipate in something we know is wrong, and if you are like me and think factory farming is wrong because of the cruelty involved, then it is worthwhile to refuse to support that industry. But if you find it too hard, remember that if everyone would give up half of their meat then it would be same as half of the people giving up meat altogether. So cutting back still counts, even if you can't stick with it 100%. Good luck!

    If those videos you′ve seen are the reason you go vegetarian, what if you try do something against animal abuse or mistreatment?
    Perhaps you could help those animals.
    Other thing you could do is buy your meat at the places you know farmers treat their animals right. Small butchers.

    I don′t know if it′s worth becoming a vegetarian for those reasons only. I am not a vegetarian, but same like you oppose animal abuse or mistreatment at the farms!

    You should stay with it. Ive been a vegetarian for a year and a half and i still live with my meat-eating parents too. It can be hard when you first start, but just stay focoused, think about what you are doing for the animals by not eating meat or fish! It gets easier as you go. Eventually you wont even want the stuff anymore.
