Do you get all giddy and happy when you meet another veg*n? Do you think there is veg*n subculture?!

Question: The other day, I was at a restaurant trying to explain to the waiter I was vegan. He looked lost. The Chief comes out, opens his mouth and says. “Yeah, I am vegetarian, what do you want to eat”. As soon as I knew he was vegetarian. It was like the heavens had opened up and I was happy! Then I started thinking about the vegetarian sub culture. I am happy when I find another vegetarian/vegan in my company.

So is there a veg*n subculture? And do you get happy when you meet another veg*n?

YES, :)

I met a girl in the grocery store who used to be vegan (she eats eggs during her mooncycle now) and we had a good long rant about seitan, tofu cheesecake and egg replacers. lol It was great! I don't know anyone else I could talk to about that.

:)

It's always cool to meet people that have similar interests, values, goals, etc. When I meet other vegetarian/vegan people it's great to exchange a recipe, talk about our beliefs and there's a kinship that can be felt in general. It doesn't always guarantee that person will be my friend or something, but it's always a positive thing.

When seen in a sociological perspective, vegetarianism IS a sub-culture in a society where vegetarianism is not the "norm" (like in America, for instance). I wouldn't consider it a subculture in someplace like India, however.

lol. For some, I think there is. It's nice to meet a genuine vegetarian or vegan. However most of the time I'm skeptical when someone says they're veg. Many of them follow it up with "I only eat chicken and fish." *rolleyes*

I love meeting other veg*ns! No one in my family or friends is veg*n so its good to have someone to talk with who understands how I feel.

I would love to have a potluck and it be all vegan.

My friends and I did lots of vegetarian stuff (my friends are cool with just cheese and eggs) and we used to have dinners all the time, but now that I am vegan, they wont accommodate lol and I don't blame them, but they still love my food.

But I do get giddy and happy,,,,,I find it hard when I meet ex-vegetarians....the fallen soldiers, lost to the dark side (lol kidding, kinda).

:)

I haven't met any other vegans/vegetarians in person that I know of but I imagine I would feel uncomfortable because I would be afraid they would watch me intently to see if I do anything "wrong." Also, I'M the vegan. I'm the only vegan that my friends and family knows so there might be competition between us. But who knows, I haven't really met any.

At my university there was a vegan club. They used to have potlucks and go to restaurants.

We always get happy when we meet people with similar lifestyles and values.

Yes. Absolutely... I feel the same way when I meet vegetarian/vegan people!!! :) :) :)

haha. that is so true.
like when you are at the grocery and you see someone else with Soymilk and Tofutti in their cart...and you get way to excited..
I get so excited, definitely
And going to a vegan restaurant is just......blows my mind
:]

Words cant explain how happy I get when I befriend a vegeterian/vegan!! I love meeting people who umm...arent so ignorant when it comes to my beliefs because they believe in the same thing. Idk what a subculture is but if it means like a vegan type culture I think time will only tell. People who educate themselves on the creatures theyre eating usually go vegeterian after reading up on what theyre actually eating. To me its disgusting.

P.s whatcha finally end up ordering?!

i meet and know tons of vegetarians, well large portions nonetheless. I get all super excited when i meet other vegans though. Because finally there is someone to relate to and share food secrets (commercial food not meant to be, but is inherently vegan.) Also we share nutritional info, talk about vegan shoes, favorite foods, recipes. Normally when i met another vegan, the first thing one of us asks the other is about honey. Its actually quite funny. I haven't met a "vegan" who eats honey yet.

On a different note, I absolutely despise meeting the "I used to be vegan for 3 weeks" type of kids or the "yeah, i was vegan for a week, but...." type of individuals, who basically make veganism seem unattainable.

If you go to college, especially a college that offers a dietetics (nutrition) degree, you'll meet tons of vegetarians and a few vegans.

Do you get all giddy and happy when you meet another vegan?

NO.

I could not really care less what someone else does or doesn’t eat.

I suppose the only good thing about meeting another person who eats the same, is being able to swap recipes.

.

That's a great question. I definitely get excited and happy when I meet other vegies or vegans. I only have 1 or 2 veg friend, everyone else is omni. I guess that's why this forum is so great, you get to talk to lots of other vegans and veggies. I agree there's a vegan subculture, I love meeting other vegans n veggies.
