If you go many years without consuming dairy, your body can lose the ability to recognize the lactose and you can ultimately become lactose intolerant when you normally wouldn't.
Maybe the butter on the hotdog bun could have made you sick.
I believe that popcorn butter at movie theaters is typically butter flavored oil, and not actually butter.
I would recommend having a food diary and writing down when feel sick and what you ate prior to that. That is what any doctor will tell you to do, so if you ever DO decide to go in to see one , you'll have the dates, what you ate, and proof of how you felt right there on paper. It will save the doctor a lot of time in a diagnosis.

so you had a "hot dog" that was just butter and bread? well if that is the case then it could of just been too much butter. same thing at the movies.... when you eat out they tend to soak things in butter and oil more than you would at home.

but yes as a vegetarian i've also started cutting out milk, ice cream, yogurt, eggs and i noticed taht whenever i did eat them i didn't feel well... people are not naturally made to consume cows milk. think about it, it's breast milk for a baby cow that's going to grow into a 2000lb. animal. we don't continue drinking our own breast milk right? and we don't grow to be 2000lbs.! so it's just not natural for any human. however, if you consume your body usually will keep processing it. but once you stop, your body starts getting rid of what it needs to process it. same thing like if you ate meat now after being a veg. you'd be really sick. i can still eat cheese but i eat cheese all the time so my body is used to it.

Margarine as well as the hot dog/popcorn/cake all have dairy in them so if you are intolerant to dairy then you will get symptoms

No more than likely you are IT because most adults are. Our bodies change after weening age & by the time we are full adults Dairy is a big no no to it.

I can do small amounts of butter, heavy cream, yogurt, raw gat cheeses..but anything closer to the Cow milk, Ice Cream,Cheese makes me horribly ill.

Your being ill could also be FAT all the things you mentioned are high fat. Could be your Gall Bladder..have it checked out.

Slainté(to your health)

Sidebar: Why you so many illness or reactions get blamed on being Veggie..rarely do I see ? on "Is this because I eat animal flesh?" LOL.

Could i be lactose intolerant because ive been a vegetarian for 7 years?

No. The 2 are not related in that manner.

Personally, when I hit my 20s I started having trouble with lactose intolerance.

I eat live cultured yogurt to help and also take the little digestive aid additives. It worked well enough for me to eat ice cream again in massive amounts :) :) :)

I am not vegetarian and never have been. I started having trouble after going on a Z-pak that wiped out the bacteria in my intestine. But I live with an Indian family who is all vegetarian and none of them are lactose intolerant.

Maybe I have been a vegetarian for six years and I feel real milk makes me sick now

Sounds like you have a problem with eating fats... movie popcorn generally uses fake butter so there is no lactose in it.

You're probably consuming lactose without even knowing it and not getting sick from eating those products. The cake, for example.

If you don't eat dairy for a while, yes you can develop (or bring back, rather) a sensitivity or intolerance toward it.

Lactose intolerant people don't "feel sick" when they eat dairy products; they feel bloated, gassy, and uncomfortable. I know, because I am lactose-intolerant. The things you're experiencing are from the amount of fat in the products you consumed; eating extrememly rich food will make anyone sick to their stomach.

Also, the "buttered popcorn" at the movie theater probably doesn't have any butter in it. Just thought I'd mention this.

Poppy - I have to tell you that it's very difficult to read what you've written. Better punctuation and traditional grammar and spelling would help us to understand you better. Also, remember that we don't know you, may not live near you, and don't automatically know your references. Just FYI for future posts.

You ate a hotdog without the hotdog? What does this mean? You had a bun with some ketchup? Where does the butter come in? I've never heard of buttering a hot dog, or the bun.

As far as "buttered" popcorn, you'll be hard pressed to find any actual butter in it. It's typically "butter flavoring", which means that there is no butter. THe ingredients usually are coconut oil or soybean oil and some random flavoring.

I have no idea what a "cream cake" is.

Lactose intolerance is not typically a vomitous feeling. It's pressure in the colon and intestines, diarrhea, bloating, gas, cramps, etc.

If you feel that it's Lactose Intolerance, buy some Lactaid at the store and see if it helps.
