Why do people become vegans?!
Answers: why do people become vegans. Its not a big deal if you eat cheese and eggs. I use to live by dairy farms and things like that and they animals are happy they have 100 or acres to roam around it and things like that and then for a few hours they get milked or the eggs are taking. So why do people become vegans? also i do not know how to spell veagan so sorry.
its amazing how virtually no one answered the question...so i will...most people go vegan because they believe that ALL animals are treated bad..have they heard of kobe beef, these cows are fed the best food, given massages and kept in feilds with no barbed wire to get cut on. and helen to ignorantly say we just chuck ckickens in a big mulcher while they are alive is total crap...sadly a question as this will only tell u that all animals are treated bad, all vegans are healthy and any1 who eats meat goes to hell, which sadly is all nonsense. and karen, male chickens are not shoved in a plastic bag to suffocate, thats retarded....and what a surprise because im telling things that vegans dont like i get thumbs down yet all their ranting gets thumbs up lol pathetic.
mother and child relationship of the cow. a cow carries her baby for over 9 months and then within a few hours or a day the baby is taken away from the mother for milk, - which we don't really need! - look at china!
the baby is then raised as veal! and soon killed.
As a woman, I wouldnever want any one to take away my baby! -
the setting you are talking about sound like heaven for animals.- however today most are not like that.
Its spelled like this
Vegan:
And people become vegans becuase they can't stand the idea of animals being killed, used as a source of food, to be tested on, etc. But there are others who become vegans just to eat healthier, or lose some weight :)
Well, not only is it better for your body (as long as you get your calcium and protein from somewhere else), it is also a lot better for the animals.
Actually it IS a big deal if you eat cheese and eggs. I'm a vegan and although you lived on a 'happy' farm, it's not just about the living conditions, although not all farms are like the one you lived on. Did you know that the average lifespan for a cow naturally is about 25 years, whereas for a dairy cow it is 5 years. Most dairy cows suffer from mastitis, which means their udders become inflamed and pus filled.
Eggs are just as bad....when chicks are hatched for more egg production, what do you think happens to male chicks which can't lay? Most are killed either by gas inhalation or into a lovely mulcher which literally minces chicks alive.
I could go into more detail, but don't want to upset everyone reading it. There are plenty of resources online if you really want to know more. I suggest starting with the vegan society.
The happy farm animals you live near are not typical farming practices. On large farms (100's of acres) the animals aren't allowed to roam free and I'm speaking particularly of chickens. The chickens are kept completely confined in small cages, usually several to one cage. They are fed arsenic to make them lay faster. They never breathe fresh air or feel the sunshine. They are never free to roam.
Are you asking why we become vegan as opposed to vegetarian? That's because the dairy industry is cruel. The happy dairy farm you depict is rare these days, and most people get their dairy products from huge factories where cows are kept constantly pregnant, their children taken away, their sons turned into veal. I think it was the veal thing that made me decide not to eat dairy foods ever again.
Besides, cows' milk is for calves, not humans. Furthermore, if we're old enough to be typing on a computer, we are old enough to have been weaned years ago.
As for eggs, again, many people get eggs from hens kept in battery cages. If you want to see what most hens live like, go to www.cok.net.
And remember that milk and eggs may not require the death of the animal, but when production declines, the cow becomes hamburger and the hen, whose battered body doesn't provide much flesh, becomes soup, nuggets, or cheap low-quality pot pies.
Confining animals for food comprises over 95 percent of all the animals exploited and killed in the U.S., but many vegans believe animals were not made for humans to use for our enjoyment. So of course, we object to animal testing, animal circuses, zoos, animals turned into clothing, and animal products in cosmetics and cleansers.
Even the free range animals don't have 100 acres to roam. Most vegans I know eat that way for concern about the animals treatment, for sustainability (it takes an extremely large amount of land and resources to raise animals for slaughter) and for the health benefits. You rarely, if ever, will see an obese vegan though some vegan diets can be detrimental to the person's diet if all the nutrients aren't there.
I used to be vegan but got some advice from an N.D. that I need to eat eggs for the glutomene because my body was feeding on itself and that I would probably experience some m.s. type systems soon. I have felt more energy since doing so and I have noticed a huge difference in taste and energy between free range, grain fed chicken eggs and the normal eggs you would buy at the supermarket.
I read a lot of books and
I study dietetics (nutrition) at my state university,
It just kinda all came together.
well i dont know i think cuz they cant ieat a burger made from an animal but you know god gave us thears foof so we can use it and eat it
They become vegans by choice. Some have to shed excess pounds so they stick to veggie diet. Some are believers that animals should not be harmed;not to be eaten (members of PETA). Some others are advised by their doctors because of a certain illness. Others are because of what their religion dictates.
well first off, you are an idiot
you think that the small percent of farms are the ones where the animals are being treated poorly... WRONG! the small percent is the farms like where you grew up, where life is nice for the animals.
That's a good question. The vast majority (about 95%) of dairy products and eggs come from factory farms, where animals are denied everything that is natural for them. Up to 11 egg-laying hens are crammed into a wire cage so small that they can't even flap their wings. Even on "free-range" farms, the animals are slaughtered when they their milk and egg production rates decline. Free-range and organic animals are often sent to the same slaughterhouses that kill animals from factory farms.
Male chicks who are born on organic or free-range egg farms are often crushed to death or stuffed into garbage bags and left to suffocate because they don't produce eggs and are of no use.
This site has a good explanation of the problems with milk and eggs: http://www.veganoutreach.org/starterpack...
