Vegetarians & Vegans doesn't it defeat the purpose when you eat food that is meatless but it looks like meat?!

Question: Isn't that a form of hypocrisy in a way.

I'm in no way bashing you guys, i'm just curious to know.

No not at all. The idea is to N0T eat something that had to die for you to eat it.
Something like vegan soy BBQ Riblets are made out of soy; therefore, no animal had to die for me to eat it, and I have a nice meat subsitute that is healthier, and more ethical.
Don't eat food that had a face!

No. Besides, tofu and tempeh don't look like meat. And, I would never mistake a Garden Burger for a beef patty. If people want to eat processed meat substitutes, then let them. Why would you care? Vegetarians may be hypocritical, but you are just downright judgmental.

Not to me.

I think you are confused.

Meatless product are cruelty-free meaning, nothing dies or is harmed in making the food.
So no, really its not hypocritical in any way.

No it's not pointless at all because many of us vegans/vegetarians like the taste of meat but we are ethically opposed to purchasing/eating meat products or by-products. There is no torture behind a vegan burger. No animals were harmed in the making of these burgers.

Some are so put off though that they don't eat veggie burgers.

Nope. People eat Tofurkey all the time.

i'm not vegetarian. but, i don't eat beef and pork. awhile ago my mom got these vegetarian patties that were suppose to taste like pork. i couldn't bring myself to eat it because i knew that it would kinda taste like pork. that's just me though.

It would only be hypocrisy if they were against the look of meat and then they ate something meatless that looked like meat. Can't see the reasoning behind why you would think it is hypocrisy.

No. The point is preventing suffering and that's accomplished using meats that attempt to mimic meat that would cause suffering without the suffering.

It's strange to call them by the meat names since they don't taste like it though...LOL
**

The look of the food has got nothing to do with been a vegetarian, veggies just don't like eating meat and I would think they have seen what happens to the animals to turn them into meat and that has put them off for life and that's why I will never watch an animal be killed because if I did I would probably become a veggie.
Hypocrisy only comes into the picture when they only eat certain types of meat, to me your either a vegetarian or your not, there is no in between.

No- the things we eat that are made to look like meat represent an ease to eating the product. Beef is turned into patties bc it's easy to put it on a bun and call it a meal. It also makes it easier to eat w/ non veggies, and still not feel out of place. Tofurkey @ thanksgivng makes you feel like part of the group. What about stuffed cabbage or zucchini? It looks like vegetables, but is made of meat. If the purpose is to not eat dead animals, then how can eating veggies w/out animals in it defeat the purpose? Also, some people, like me, enjoy the texture and feel of meat, but don't wanna kill stuff to get those feelings. (Or involve the unhealthiness of eating dead stuff.)

Since when did soy protein begin to feel pain?

No it doesn't defeat the purpose; the purpose of being vegetarian or vegan is, for most, to reduce as far as they can their contribution to animal suffering and exploitation. As no fake meats cause any suffering or exploitation, veg*ns eating them are staying true to that purpose.

And no it's not hypocrisy; hypocrisy means claiming to have higher standards than you in fact have. So - saying you would never eat meat and then secretly eating a steak, that's hypocrisy. Saying you don't eat meat and then eating something that's not meat - that's not hypocrisy.

People choose to eat fake meats for a number of reasons. Some may have enjoyed meat and given it up for ethical reasons; they might enjoy something whose taste and texture is something like the real thing.

But for most veg*ns who eat them, fake meats are about variety of taste and texture in their diet, something everybody craves. It's just a way of flavouring food for variety; and it's a way of conveniently shaping food to form the centrpiece of a meal, which is exactly what is done with meat. No fake meat looks like an animal - no animal is shaped like a burger, a rasher, mince or a sausage.

no because its NOT MEAT

the reason we dont eat meat is cause of the abuse not the looks or taste.

but actually ive thought of that before and i was preeettty stoned so rock on with ur bad self if u thought of that normally

I personally don’t eat fake meat because I think it looks foul.

However, I think you are confused (or trolling) because where exactly is the hypocrisy…………..

NO animals died to make the fake meat

The environment was NOT decimated to make the fake meat

Fake meat does NOT cause cholesterol problems like real meat does

Fake meat does NOT cause cancer like real meat does

Fake meat does NOT cause degenerative health issues like real meat does

.

I use to think that too until I realized no, it does not. It is simply eating a food that does not go against your principles. What's hypocritical about that? Most vegetarians don't dislike the taste of meat (though some do of course),they just don't approve of the manner in which it is obtained. And being a vegetarian does not exclude you from enjoying food.

Oh good Lord! How can so many people lack common sense!
A. Just because someone dosen't want to eat meat does not mean that they do not like the taste of meat. And it is not like those foods really taste like meat.
B. How is it defeating the purpose if someone cares about animals and does not eat them but eats fake meat? The fake meat is not hurting the animals. The purpose is to save animals.
Sorry, I just don't understand how some people cannot get that.

No, because it isn't actually meat.

its not hypocrisy...its actually quite clever...if their body starts to crave meat they can actually fool their body by eating things like quorn as the body thinks its getting meat but its really not. oh to the ignorant peraon who wrote this please correct it

problems with this statment..firstly being doing that ur the one trolling..making nasty statments when u didnt need to...secondly meat doesnt cause cancer, high cholestoral and degenrative health isssues...yes they can contribute but do not cause them..just as too many apples can cause acute cyanide poisoning but you still eat them...there was just no reason for you to be ignorant. oh and below...i cant stress how many times i have to say this...plants are alive..we all know that they arent magic...so if u eat them u kill them so why do people say dont eat sumthing that had to die just for you..isnt this ignorance and the people that say animals have feeling and so on and are therefore higher beings than plants make it alright..by this very standard humans are higher than animals and by this means its alright to eat animals.
