Is vegan a religion?!

Question: The way some talk it sounds like it..

Answers: The way some talk it sounds like it..

no, its when u dont eat meat

your choice

Any set of beliefs you live by can be considered a religion.

No! it's a way people choose to eat.
Some feel very strongly about it though, if that's what you mean.

no its wen you dont eat anything that comes from meat like milk or eggs or meat
dont do it man!

i believe in addition to not eating meat, they also will not buy products that are made from animal carcasses or animal by-products.

it is a personal choice, not a religion.

It could be linked to the Buddist religion, but I know what you mean, I am one but I don't talk about it.
Those competitive yoga women irritate me, it actuallly puts you off something you might have been interested in the past, has you not met them... ( :

no

It's not a religion, no, since it's got nothing to do with a god or higher power. But with all the fanaticism that surrounds it, it's hard to tell the difference.

No.

Absolutely not; it's a dietary and lifestyle choice, and the people who make that choice can be of any religion or no religion at all.

Personally I'm a vegan and an atheist and a lot of other things too - being a vegan is a pretty small part of my life.

i wish more religions would promote vegan lifesytle. I hear religious learders going on and on about peace and kindness and love and respect. - where the f' is all that love and respect when they and their followers are munching down on some poor innocent animals that was probably abused all its life and then killed.

see we have a choice, - to be cruel or not to be cruel. - as a vegan, I chose not to be cruel!

No, it's not a religion. To be a religion there would have to be a god, a set of rituals, probably a sacred text or two. To even try to make that comparison is silly.

Veganism is a lifestyle based on the desire to eliminate animal exploitation. While for most it's based on some deply held beliefs, it's not a religion. I know Christian vegans, Jewish vegans, Buddhist vegans, Hindu vegans, agnostic vegans, atheist vegans, etc...

To some, but so is Money or Work or Fave Sport.

Is a Focused Way of life to be criticized or applauded? High deals is what make great people.

no its not a religion...as for the way some people talk about it, imagine it like this...people go on and on about thier football team, even are superstitious about it, is following man u a religion? although they'd like to think so, no its not
vegans have fanatics but they are no diff than a sports fanatic

and just reading the above post - vegan is not just someone that doesnt eat meat, thats a vegetarian
a vegan is someone who will not ingest, wear or use anything from an animal, meat or otherwise

vegan is when you dont eat meat OR anything processed by an animal eg: eggs, cheese!!!
Vegetarian is when you dont eat meat or fish!

Um no.

Some of us just realize it's nonsensical & hypocritical to be lacto-ovo because we're against animal cruelty, yet support the egg and dairy industries which just prolong the cruelty before the animals are sent to the same slaughterhouses meat animals go to. Not to mention the veal industry wouldn't exist if it weren't for you demanding your dairy.

I find it fascinating how many people HATE us for being compassionate.

Religion is defined as "Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe."

Veganism can be defined as a way of living that seeks to exclude (to the extent that it is possible / practical) all forms of animal cruelty and exploitation.

So while some people (such as Jains) may be vegan for spiritual reasons, veganism itself is a lifestyle and not a religion.

It's a simple set of beliefs, but because they fly in the face of what the vast majority of western society does, I suppose it might seem like an odd religion or even cult to some...

I've been vegan my whole life, and can't imagine being otherwise, much like millions of people can't imagine not following their religion, so I suppose in some ways they are the same. :)
