When processing meats and veggies to put to market..?!

Question: I wonder why companies don't put their products through a radiation process to get rid of any E- coli that might be left behind after the hot water washes and cleansing procedures. Its cost efficant and safe.

Actually, in the U.S. almost all produce and meat is radiated.

Organic is the exception. It is illegal to label produce or meat organic if it has been subjected to radiation.

(Which is why organic veggies keep growing when you bring them home...)

Because most consumers would FREAK if they thought their food was RADIATED, even if they don't know it is not the same things as their food being RADIOACTIVE.

some do........you just don't know about it

"efficant" .....as if we didn't have enough sh!t in our food already.

Well all non-organic herbs and spices are radiated, but personally I don't want people doing anything to my food. I want it in as natural state as possible. I don't eat meat and as far as e-coli being found in lettuce and on green onions, perhaps if people used a good veggie spray this would also be eliminated as the veggie sprays have natural ingredients to help kill harmful bacteria.

Many people don't believe that it is safe. The word radiation instantly makes people think of bombs and cancer. It takes a while for people to be convinced by studies saying it is safe. They expect perfection and don't understand how scientific studies work. Some people think natural is good and unnatural is bad. In many cases natural can be worse for you than things people have worked with/ made, but it is all psychology. Some people may just be scared it won't taste as good. Whatever the reason, psychology usually trumps science however sad it is in some cases.
