Vegan/Vegetarian doesn't in and of itself cause weight loss. After all french fries and soda are technically vegan.

You have to eat the right vegan things.

Dairy is typically high in fat, so yes, cutting that out should produce weight loss as long as you don't compensate for the caloric loss in other weighs.

The rule of thumb is to lose more weight, eat fewer calories and burn more. What the calories come from, to a degree, doesn't make that much difference, unless there is a large disparity in fat content.

In general though, a vegan diet does have the possibility of being extremely healthy, and 100 years from now, that will likely be the diet of the planet. Whole grains, fresh fruits & veggies, healthy fats such as olive oil & nuts, and small amounts of carbs such as potatoes and pasta should work fine. If you don't see weight loss then, consume less or work out more.

As far as vitamins go, my friend "itsmelaniee:)" who answered below is misinformed. There is more calcium, for instance, in leafy greens than there is in milk, plus milk actually leeches calcium from the body anyway (where do you think the cow got the calcium given they are vegetarian).

Apes, from which decended are all vegetarian and they do just fine, as nature intended.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a vegan, or a anti-meat warrior, but I respect veganism as I feel it's really the way we were intended to be, and will be someday.

Yes. Good choice. It will work. Of course, if you went vegan you would have to cut all animal products out. A friend of mine is a raw foods vegan and he lost a lot of weight when he started that diet.

well, i guess it would but why don't you try skim or low fat dairy products? it would be much harder to get the vitamins if you become a vegan than just a vegetarian.

Yes, dairy products are high in fat and low in fiber. Eat more fruits and vegetables, preferably raw, like in a salad. Good luck.
