Pros and cons of becoming a vegetarian?!

Question: I'm 13 and thinking of becoming a vegetarian. I just wanted to know any pros and cons of vegetarianism before I make a final decision. For more info, I might be going at this alone in a family of omnivores, although I'm willing to do research and know what I need to eat to replace meat. Also, what nutrients will I be lacking and how can I get them? Thanks!

I will be honest....and start with cons, because there are some.

cons: you get teased sometimes, you might not be able to eat out with friends and family sometimes (unless its french fries and stuff like that), if you like meat, if you are 13, then every time you go to a friends house, you will need to tell them before hand that you are veggie if you are eating there....you will need to explain it all to your parents.

Pros: and they out weight the cons, are: You are helping our environment, you are supporting an animal cruelty free lifestyle, you are sticking to what you believe in and that will make you a stronger person....you will feel great...you will be supported by other vegetarians, we love vegetarians :) you will probably start cooking more and being more aware of food....

Do some research and find out why, then talk with your parents, be smart about it, don't get sick...I wanted to point out some cons that people about your age have talked about, but seriously....try it out.

:) good luck

flesh is for zombies! I am a vegetarian because my body is not a graveyard for animals body's to rest!

well good luck :-)

Pros: Living Longer, Staying Healthy, Being Skinny, Keeping Animals Alive.

Cons: None.

I am vegetarian and I eat soy meat like soy chicken patties they taste like chicken, they are really good, also tofu is good,I started to drink more milk, beans and cheese are good, but one thing I have noticed was I am more hungry because I still don't get all the the stuff that I need out of the meat.

like everything there are pros and cons...pros you are more than likely going to be healthier...cons it takes alot more effort to get all your nutrients...and kendra ur a tool...to say flesh is for zombies...hate to tell u fruits that you eat the bit u eat is called flesh...so u just screwed urself their and ur body may not be a graveyard for animals but its certainly one for plants.

Well being a vegetarian is not hard at all. In my family I am the only one who does not eat meat. Just ask them to be supportive in your decision. The only con I can think of are over-priced veggie burgers/other vegetarian foods at supermarkets. You may replace the iron in food with iron supplements. Although you can find those nutrients in beans, lentil, avocados, and other vegetables.

pros you save animals, are healthy and makes you smart. cons veggies are expensive, you dont get protein, and you get sick because you dont get enough vitamin E. if you decide to become a veggie person, drink protein shakes or eat protein bars. beacuse being 13 you need protein. it helps you deveolp during puberty. (if ya know what i mean)

It's true that you'll get made fun of for your beliefs. Educate yourself on how healthy a vegetarian diet is, and you'll be able to defend yourself when ignorant people ask questions like "how do you get enough protein?".

There are so many pros, I don't have enough room to type them. You're helping the environment, you're not supporting animal cruelty, and you're protecting yourself from serious health issues such as heart disease, and many types of cancer. If you'd like help transitioning, let me know, I've been veggie for a very long time.

If you like cooking for yourself , go for it.
