Thinking About Becoming A Vegetarian?!

Question: I am really considering becoming a vegetarian, although I am not sure what would really be best for me. I am only 13, although I have been researching a lot. And, I really want to become a veggie, although I just don't know if it is the best lifestyle. I would love answers from veggies and non-veggies! Thanks soo much!

It is a great sign that you are researching, it means you are seriously considering it and will be responsible in your diet.

Going vegetarian is one of the greatest choices I have ever made. It makes me feel better about myself, even though there hasn't been a lot of weight loss or anything for me, I just feel better, which is very important. I became a veggie when I was 12, and the transition was a little hard, it took me a few tries, but I stuck with it, and now it is second nature.

Some of my absolute fave products are Morningstar (esp. the veggie bacon) and Tofurkey as substitutes for meats. But you should experiment with veggie burgers, etc., because they vary greatly. I found it fun to try new veggie burgers! Some brands that are easy to track down are Boca, Morningstar, and Amy's, as well as SmartFoods. A good type of food that tends to be veggie friendly is Indian food, which if you enjoy it is a good tasting cuisine.

As far as it being the BEST lifestyle, that is personal. It sounds to me like you are seriously considering it, so I think it is worth doing for a month or two at the very least. It is worth a try at the very least. For me, anyway, it is the best lifestyle, and the one that makes me the happiest, so I would definetly recommend it.

best life style as in how? It is one of the healthiest life styles you can lead. Although socially it does take a toll. You wont be able to eat out like you used to and at other peoples houses (especially parties) you will find it a little troubling to find something meatless. Theese are sacrifices you make for your beliefs though. If you truely believe eatting meat is wrong, you wont.

Many people become vegetarians as teens. It's perfectly healthy - just be sure to eat enough calories (don't live on only salads) and include fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, and grains in your diet. The American Dietetic Association (one of the nation's leading nutrition experts) states: "Well-planned vegan and other types of vegetarian diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood and adolescence."

It takes some time to adjust, but it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Most supermarkets have a selection of fake meats and stores like Whole Foods have tons of veg options. You can even get a veggie burger at Burger King and Johnny Rockets these days!

Good luck!

Being a vegetarian and vegan is a great thing for any age! Actually the sooner, the better! You should discuss this with your parents and see if they would help you by making vegetarian foods and making sure you get the correct nutrition which is easy! You can tell them to check out the documentary Earthlings and read the book The China Study if they are having doubts. Here are some websites to check out:

If you've done the research, what's your question?

good for you, girl!
I turned veggie when I was 11 and I'm almost 19 now.

You're making a good choice! If you do it right, it can be a very healthy and rewarding lifestlye.

If I were you, I'd cut out red meat, then chicken, and then seafood. I didn't do it that way, I did it cold turkey (no pun intended!) but I'm sure it's much easier if you take things out one by one.

It's harder for certain people and easier for others, but just hang it there, you WILL get used to that new diet and eventually you won't crave meat :)

Also, I recommend you take women's One A Day pills- they have all the vitamins and nutrients a veggie girl could need :)

Try eating a lot of nuts, too- very good for vegetarians.

good luck!

go head but it is hard.

I am a non-vegi as you call it,though I eat vegetables sometimes. We need vegetables as well as meat to be healthy.I suggest you stay a non-vegi but avoid meat most of the time if you want to,therefor you are really in fact part time veggie!Meat is needed for protein and strength.A carrot doesn't give you really any protein, and fish does. You can be part time veggie or be a full time veggie with NO MEAT at all.Why don't you try being a veggie for a week and see how it feels. It's not like you can't go back.

Being a vegitarin is hard becasue u need the things that contain meat so if u want u should have tofu or be an only poultry meat person because i no someone like that and they are achiving there gold and they are getting the soureces they need.
