Not necessarily. But you will probably eat more good fats and less bad ones. It all about calories input vs calorie output. There are both healthy vegetarians and unhealthy ones. Make sure you eat plenty of greens, fruits, seeds, beans, nuts, legumes & whole grain bread. Plus some exercise. Good luck... stay healthy =0)

As with any diet, to lose weight you need to eat less calories than your body will use. This can be easier with a vegetarian diet because you are eliminating a lot of animal fats, but simply cutting out meat and eating normally otherwise won't do anything and can be quite unhealthy. Things like soda and chips don't contain animal products, but can still get you to pack on the pounds.
Reducing fats and simple sugars will help you lose weight (not just sweet stuff- white flour and stuff like white bread and pasta aren't great). This can be done while eating meat, you just need to watch proportions. If you do it without meat, there will be less fat but you need to make sure to eat the right variety of proteins. Milk and eggs are a good way to get protein without meat, and fish is good if you want to eliminate other meat.
You will need to excersise if you want to lose weight. There are no magic fixes. Any well balanced diet and excersie can help you lose weight. Rebember that it takes effort and that some people just aren't built to be tiny.
