Vegetarian please help???!

Question: I, 13 years old, just decided to become a vegetarian yesterday, and I need some help. Well, I know about the by products like rennet and stuff, and today my mom was gonna make mac n cheese for lunch, but when i looked at the box, it said 'enzymes'. What should I do if my family makes stuff like that, and I don't have many vegetarian options yet? What modified vegetarian foods are there except for veggie burgers and dogs? PLEASE help! Thanks so much.

Alrighty, I am a veggie, and I think that enzymes are not restricted on my diet. Really, really strict vegans may have issues with it but not veggies. Enzymes are teensy weensy micro bacteria that are in foods like yogurt, and mac and cheese, and a lot of other foods. They have no nervous system, and are like yeast. Yeast are also teensy weensy micro organisms that are found in bread. These tiny organisms are like bacteria, and reproduce in the thousands, and they feel no pain, and I don't know if they even die. Enzymes, in my personal opinion, are totally fine to eat, but it is really up to you. Enzymes are like amoeba, they are just so small, and they are in plants and stuff. I think that you are fine eating them, promise. And just to answer your other Q, beans are great, soup from cans, stir fry vegetables, these are all quickly put together if you find out you can't eat what your family is eating that night. I am in your same situation, and I don't avoid enzymes, I don't think they are classified as living.
Good Luck!

you aren't considering veggies?

You should make an effort to add beans to you diet. There are lots of kinds of beans that are delicious and nutritious. Also, tofu will add protein without adding much in the way of fat.

fresh fruit & vegetables

fruits and vegetables and a LOT of them.

and make sure you are getting adequate protein by eating grains and beans, together they substitute for the amino acids (protein) found in meat. you gotta eat them TOGETHER though.

stay healthy!

My daughter made the same announcement when she was your age. She had been propagandized by some vegans at school. The only problem was the same one I belive I see between the lines of your question. She didn't like vegetables!

Mac 'n cheese in not some thing you should be eating if you are a strict vegetarian . The cheese in mac n cheese is animal based protein.
However some vegetarian who aren't strict vegetarian eat cheese and drink dairy product.
You should decide which one you want to be and make the necessary changes to your diet.

Vella cheese is made from vegetable.
Here is a snack recipe

MACARONI & CHEESE

1 lb. macaroni
1 lb Vella Sharp Cheddar Cheese (grated)
1 cube (1/4 lb.) butter or margerine made with vegetable oils
1/2 cup flour
1 quart non-fat milk or soy milk or coconut milk.
Salt to your taste.

Cook macaroni "al dente" and drain. with salt.

Make a white sauce. In a thick bottomed pot over low heat. Melt butter, add flour, and stir for 5 minutes without browning. Add milk and cook until sauce thickens.

Add 2/3 cup cheese , stirring until cheese melts, and remove from heat.

Add macaroni, and stir to coat with sauce.

Pour mixture into 2 1/2 quart casserole, top with remaining cheese, and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

ask your mom to use vegetable cheese for you, it costs less and taste the same. maybe you schould go with her when she is buying the food, so you could see and choose, there is a lot of things in the supermarkets this days for vegetarians.
