Anyone have a great Vegan Tikka Masala recipe or a recipe for it that can be easily "veganized"?!
Answers: Chicken Tikka Masala used to be my favorite Indian dish years ago. But now I want to make it at home with vegan ingredients. Can you help out?
I hope this helps...Ive never tried it myself,so I cannot help you more.Good Eating!
Ps...never tried seitan you say?Well.....you havent lived,my friend.Try 'Green Cuisine"garlic&herb flavour. You can make your own too,but I have yet to try that myself!
If you use QUORN products you can use their chicken pieces and follow the usual recipe or try their Tikka Chicken quorn strips which are just a snack in the box and never last ;long enough to make into a meal.
Have the recipe for Tikka salad here, but not sure what country your from.
As Tikka masala has dairy in it you can make it without and use a soya yougart/cream cheese to smooth out the sauce, I use a premade masala (Pataks) and use both fresh and frozen veg (peas, corn and turnips or green beans), raw/tinned potatos, onions, zuccihini, japanese eggplant, fresh tomatos and garlic.
You have to cut thing fairly similar, in a quarter/half inch dice, stir fry the onions, potatos and garlic with oil, add the paste, and then all the other veg, some veggie broth or water, simmer for 20-30 minutes, for a thicker base add some dissolved cornstarch with a bit of water, taste adjust the seasonings and then after you have done that and the dish has stopped boiling, add the soya yougart or soya cream cheese for the smoothness and flavour element.
I serve mine with either brown basmati or regular brown rice cooked in my rice cooker.
Just to add to David's answer above. Some Indian recipes also use ground almonds or ground cashews to lend 'smoothness' to the sauce.
