Do the meat and dairy industries still promote their product to vulnerable children in schools?!
However, now I know that they were taking a cheap shot at us; promoting their meat products without spending much money on advertisement to brainwash gullable kids.
Obviously the National Dairy Council still has a huge hold on the schools. Why else would they outlaw sodas at some schools but still carry milk products that are just as high-calorie and fattening?
So I'm wondering, do Oscar Mayer and other companies still go around giving kids free samples and so-called "nutrition" coloring books or is this a thing of the past?
Answers: I remember when I was in elementary school and the Oscar Mayer wiener truck came to our school. Even though I hated the taste of hot dogs I treated the visit like it was my favorite celebrity. I felt as if they passed up every other school to come to ours and show us their appreciation.

Yes, in a variety of ways. Mostly through sponsoring school events.
Your extended question is confusing. You are talking about meat and dairy right? Then you say this "Almost 50% of cancer cases are linked to diet and don't even tell me that all those people are vegetarian." But vegetarians consume dairy. So what exactly are you saying?
"few brainwashed puppets"--I guess you can't see you're viewed as the same for the vege industry eh?
Never forget that info. from any corner of the food industry is biased towards selling products and making $$$. Honesty doesn't make you $$$ like manipulation does and all aspects of the food industry use manipulation.
BTW- I'd like to see a link verifying that figure so I can increase my knowledge, thanks. Please not from a vege propaganda site cause that would deem your post hypocritical.
EDIT: I don't need to read anything because you just proved my point. This guy is in it for the $$$. Look at all of the stuff he sells.
http://www.fourgates.com/weil.asp
You know what seperates him from Dr. Mercola and Weston Price?** Dr. Weil is telling you what you want to hear, what you want to be true. Doesn't make it true though. Like I said, there's a $$$ reason for everything in the food industry. There is no larger industry on the planet!! Finding truth in the food industry is as likely as finding a lobster in a gallon of ice cream.
** --please note I'm not advocating Mercola & Price. I just use them as examples because they are considered anti-vege. I put no faith in any of these people.
After looking at my link again I can honestly say that advertisements come in the mail all the time regarding this sort of thing, all say different things and all claiming to be true, which obviously isn't possible. Around here we call it "junk mail" cause it's all just people selling a product trying to make $$$.
EDIT: you're right, I misread the top portion of the link you gave. My apologies. My assessment of the food industry is unchanged though. Are you saying Robbins renounced claims on the family fortune?
Wow, those other answers are ridiculous. People are actually attacking you for hinting at the fact that you're vegan while asking a simple question.
Anyway, I haven't been in a public school lately, but I imagine that things probably have not improved very much. It's not just schools, either. Have you ever noticed how chain restaurants hardly EVER have vegetarian options on the kids' menu? I've been a vegetarian since I was little, so I've always been pretty upset about that.
I was in elementary for the exact same years as you, and I have never seen the Oscar Mayer truck.. so maybe it is only in specific area, I went to elementary in south dakota, and california.
But I couldnt agree more. And these people on here love to disagree with you but judging from what they are saying they must not know you can get plenty of calcium from a plant based diet. Doesnt look like they have done much research on the subject. They just like to criticize vegans.
I dont have anything against people who choose to drink milk, to each his own. But you are 100% correct when you say the dairy council has a huge hold on schools. Otherwise there would be more options then just milk, and only milk. Would it be so difficult to offer an alternative such as soy milk?
Its hard for them to comprehend that milk may not be good for you because all they have heard there whole life is milk does a body good. (more propaganda from the dairy industry). But humans are the only species who drink milk from another species, and past infancy non the less. So whos the weird one?
hate to tell u sumthin but the vege and vegans do it alot more...how many vege and vegans are on here that are under 14. a good 60% its all you hear..."im 11 and a vegetarian" whats there reason...they watched 1 peta video or one video geared to criminalize the meat industry and hype of veges and peta...if thats not propaganda i dont know what is...so how can you talk like that when veges and vegans are trying propaganda on youngsters everyday...peta even admitted they target young school children....what you think about that? and kyle u clearly havnt heard of skimmed or even semi-skimmed milk...in semi-skimmed there is under 50 calories per 100ml thats alot better than a can of cola...so do your homework before making ridiculous rants
I went to elementary school in California in the early 80s. At that time the schools used an "educational" program to teach "nutrition," which was basically a bunch of propaganda provided by the CA Dairy Council. I googled it just about 6 months ago and, sure enough, "Nutrition with Nelson" is still being pedaled in the elementary schools of CA. It's all online and interactive instead of the coloring books and stuff that we had, but it's still the Dairy Council flogging their own products and propping up their comrades in the meat industries. Maybe the state legislatures need to fund nutrition education that comes from an unbiased source (you know, like a textbook written by an R.D. with nothing to sell) instead of backing the schools into a corner and making them choose between getting propaganda free from the dairy councils or spending money they don't have on books.
in my high school and the middle and elementary school i went to they always havw big blow up Got Milk? Ad posters on the wall in the cafeteria. i agree with the soda thing! it ticks me off i like soda but they banned it cause of fat kids or something liek that i mean how about us normal weight and underweight kids that like soda? just let us kids have soda even the chubby ones! xD
Yes and it is so wrong. We need more soldiers in the field to quiet down this horrible rebellion.
Seriously, I don't think you are looking for an answer, you are looking for a consensus or supportive statements. When you classified milk as equal to if not worse to sodas, calling the ads "cheap shots"(are you aware how much it costs to make, maintain and otherwise promote the Oscar Meyer mobile?),"brainwash gullible kids (you mean those brainwashed gullible kids that PETA targets and later on become vegetarians/vegans as PETA wanted them to be and then become dues paying PETA members or those who believe that the YouTube videos are"irrefutable proof" and robotically chant "I am a vegetarian because I love animals" incessantly?)then you have pretty much exposed your agenda for asking this seemingly legitimate "question"
Touche to the first answer! How can you expect a reasonable answer when you are a PETA pet yourself?
BTW, ever heard of osteoporosis? It affcts geriatric men and post-menopausal women, and dairy- often low-fat products- assist in maintaining bone density.
Please go and preach your drivel elsewhere!
WEll, they wouldn't have soy milk because soy actually increases cancer, believe it or not. My school offers juices, energy drinks (gatorade, powerade, ects...) and water. But they wouldnt' do that with elementray school kids because they really need to drink milk since they're developing at a lot larger rate than middle schoolers or high schoolers are. Teenagers need to drink milk more, but choices are choices.
