Include

Dark green leafy vegetables
Fortified breakfast cereals
Dried fruits - dates, apricots, prunes
Kale
Blackstrap molasses
Beans
Tofu

into your diet, and to help the absorption of this iron, eat foods rich in Vit C, as well.

A good trick is cooking in a cast iron pan, too. The food cooked in it absorbs the iron and no, you can't taste it. :)

Yes, beans & dark leafy greens are high in iron, which will prevent anemia.

Only if you lived on a totally crap vegetarian diet, like sweeties, chips and cola.

.

dark leafy greens. Iron absorbs into the body better in the presence of calcium & vitamin A, both of which can be found in non-meat sources.

you have to take multivitamins to push the anemic chances away. i don't want to be anemic so i take vitamins with lots of B12- the vitamin you find in meat. i drink liquid. it taste horrible and smells too, but i need it to keep healthy.

Yes, it can. Eat lots of green leafy vegetables, enriched ceral, and fortified soy milk. A multivitamin can't hurt either.

Being vegetarian will not make you anemic.

Eating an unbalanced diet can.

Iron deficiency anemia can be caused by low iron intake over a long period of time, however that would be difficult to obtain on any decently varied diet as iron is readily found in many foods, including grains, dark greens, legumes(beans) and nuts.

Anemia can also be caused by B-12 deficiency. It is difficult to consume adequate B-12 from plants, however there are many fortified products(soy milk for example) that contain B-12 and supplements are also available.

Being vegetarian wouldn't make you anemic. You CAN be anemic and vegetarian, just like you CAN be omnivorous and anemic, but the two are not even remotely mutually exclusive.

Aneamia is the most widespread deficiency in humans today. Its not the preserve of vegetarians.

"Iron deficiency is the most prevalent nutritional problem both in Britain and worldwide. It has been stated that 2/3 of children and women of child-bearing age in developing countries suffer from iron deficiency, 1/3 suffering from severe deficiency and anaemia. In developed countries, between 10-20% of child-bearing age women are said to be anaemic. Iron is the least plentiful nutrient in the typical British diet and anaemia is fairly common in the UK. "

This page will tell you lots about iron and being a vegetarian:

A balanced veggie diet will give you enough iron.

You could look at being an intelligent vegetarian and Googling "Flexitarian Diets". This will lessen the chance of you being anemic.
