Answers: Flax oil and seeds are supposed to do lot of good to your health. Where can you get them in india?
any idea?
The Hindi name for flax seeds is -- Alsi/Alshi. You can get them at grocery stores in the North, particularly Delhi.
The Tamil name for the same is -- Alivirai. My guess is this should be obtainable from Nattu Vaidiyam shops (shops stocking native herbs/medicines such as Siddha/Ayurveda etc.)
Scientific name: Linum usitatissimum
Commonly called -- Linseed
Some More Useful Info :
Flaxseeds are known as ALSI in Hindi, Gujarati, and Punjabi, Ali Virai in Tamil. In Marathi, it is also known as Jawas, Alashi, and Linseed. In Bengali, it is known as Tishi, in Oriya it's Pesi. In Kannada, its called Agasi, and Telugu people call it Avise Ginzalu. Finally, in Kerala, the Malyalis call it Cheruchana Vithu.
It appears the flax seed has been in use in India for a very long time.
Organically grown seeds can be sourced directly from a group of farms, called Navadanya, in the Garhwal region of Uttaranchal. http://www.navdanya.org/organic/linseed....
Nutrient status
Flax seeds contain oil, mucilage and protein. The mucilage is soothing to the digestive and has mild laxative and cleansing action. The oil contains some linoleic acid, an moega-6 fat, but much higher lvels of the omega-3 fatty acid, alpha-linolenic acid. This omega-3 fat has potent anti-inflammatory action on the joints, skin and digestive system.

This herb is used for maintaining cardiovascular health, to help in menopause and as a mild laxative, apart from being used in seed form for the treatment of cancer. The oil helps slow the kidney disease that accompanies lupus.
Religious importance
It is believed that this herb is used for healing spells and rituals and to attract money and wealth.

Just an FYI, the healthy stuff in flax seeds gets destroyed by heat so keep them in the fridge. And if they aren't crushed before consumption, or by chewing they pass through your system whole and there by no good. So your best bet is to grind them, with a mortar and pestle before consumption.
Flax oil should be refrigerated too.
