It's awesome.
There's lots of different kinds.
Silken tofu comes in soft or firm. It's white. It's great for things like scrambled tofu or making smoothies or dips. Tastes very odd when raw (I think) but makes GREAT scrambled tofu. [Make like scrambled eggs. Crumble, pan fry with veg and herbs/spices of your choice.]
Pressed tofu is very dense. It's brown on the outside and off white on the inside. You can sometimes get this pre-marinated. It's kinda rubbery (I think).
Nigari tofu is white and firm. A good substitute for meat, especially in stir fries. Nigari tofu can be marinated and grilled as if it were a chicken breast or a steak. I often marinate it in teriyaki or honey soy sauce for at least 2 hours before grilling and adding to some noodles& veg. It can also be pan fried in slices or cubes... It's fantastic.
And finally...
Tofu puffs. They are THE BOMB.
They come in 1-inch cubes & are deep fried (you can't get this texture by deep frying tofu yourself). On the outisde, they're brown and on the inside, they are like a sponge. Lots of little holes for soaking up flavour and a nice squishy texture that is in NO way slimy. They soak up marinates really well and are also great pan fried with sweet chilli sauce.
Tofu is made of soybeans.

It tastes gross if it's NOT cooked so I always cook mine.
Cut it up in slices and put it in a frying pan along with 2 spoons of oil.
It doesn't need to be cooked, I use silken tofu in smoothies all the time.
I love Tofu! I like this recipe! I have never had tofu in my sandwich before but i love to have avocado in my sandwiches! It doesn't always have to be cook!
I'm asian so we have it alot!
We have it fried, marienated, raw! WE have fried tofu with rice and soy sauce or cook it in a sti-fri or soup! We also like to eat it as a desert! (this is a different kind of tofu though! You would have to get it at a tofu place) Buh we eat it cold with a ginger-sugar syrup on top! I hope that this is what your looking for~ : ]
Ingredients:
1 loaf of Bean curd , fried and cut into cubes
1 small can of tausi ( fermented, salted, black beans )
200 gms (7 ounces) Chinese broccoli
1-2 kg of pork, cut into cubes
crushed garlic, to taste
chopped onions, to taste
Seasonings, Add to taste:
oyster sauce
Chinese light soy sauce
Salt and pepper
Preparation:
Heat the pan with cooking oil.
Add the crushed garlic and onions.
Add the pork cubes. Allow to cook until the pork golden brown.
Add the fried bean curd and tausi. Season with the oyster sauce, soy sauce, salt and pepper.
Add the Chinese broccoli last. Mix through and serve.
It's processed soybean curd and is unhealthy if eaten too much because it's unfermented.

Tofu is delicious :)
You don't need to cook it...I sometimes just cut up a block and eat it raw.
My favorite way to cook tofu is to deep fry it...sounds incredibly unhealthy, but it's actually not. The oil doesn't penetrate the tofu, it just cooks the outer layer. Fried tofu is a little chewy/crispy on the outside, and soft inside.
You can also boil it, bake it, blend it into pastes/smoothies/practically anything.
I don't have my favorite recipe with me, but look online for Tofu Scramble recipies. Soooo good.
Also, the cookbooks "Veganomicon" and "Vegan with a Vengeance" both have some of my all-time favorite tofu recipies.

TUFU CURREY-is taste and made up with Coconut and Tomato and Onion as Vegitarian way.
Required items
1.Tufu pcs- 15 or 20 nos
2.Chopped Onions-1 cup
3.Tomato - 2 nos
4.Grated Coconut-1 cup
5.Cooking oil - 2 spoon
6.Curry Leaves and Coriander leaves- small Bunch
7.Turmeric Powder
8.Green Chillies
9.Musturd Seeds.
10.Yogurt - 3 spoon
11.Garlic/Ginger paste-1 spoon
Preparation method.
1.Heat Pan add Cooking oil. add Musturd seeds. Add onion and tomato. Fry it for 5 Minites. Take 1/2 quantiy of Onion/tomato out. and keep separately. Now add Tufu and fry it for 5 Minites.
By the time take Grated coconut/Onion/Tomato/Green chillies/Little curry Leaves make inot paste in Mixer,
Add this mixer in pan along with Tifu and 1/2 glass water.( if you want Gravy add more water) add Turmeric Powder.Add Garlic/ginger paste.Now all will become thick Curry. Now Tufu curry is ready.
Garnish with Coriander Leaves.Add yogurt when curry cools down. ( yogurt is your choice, if you like other wise avoid it)
You can take Tufu Curry with Rotti or rice or Briyani or Bread.

to some posters: FYI ALL tofu is already cooked. Soybean milk from which tofu (Japanese word for bean curd, Ta-hu in Chinese) is made has to be cooked or it is toxic. Miso is fermented soy bean paste.
