What cant you have when your vegan?!

Question: i was eating a vegan blueberry muffin the other day and wanted to know what makes it vegan

Answers: i was eating a vegan blueberry muffin the other day and wanted to know what makes it vegan

Veganism isn't just a diet...it is a lifestyle.

No animal products in your foods...that means no honey, meat, dairy, eggs....

It also means that you don't wear leather, silk, wool etc....any animal products in your cleaning products, shampoos, soaps etc.

So in your muffin, there wouldn't be eggs and dairy.

A vegan diet can be very fat free, but you can still eat fried foods, chocolate (some), chips (some),.,....so veganism doesn't mean that you will be skinny.

If you eat well, lots of veggies and fruit and a balance of carbs and proteins, then yes, you will be healthy and thin. But whether you eat meat or not, if you don't eat a balanced diet and exercise, you will be unhealthy.

You can substitute meat with tofu and soy products, but some can be very high in fat and calories. So you need to be smart about it.

Eating a good breakfast is the best start to any day :)

it cant have any animal products (milk, butter, eggs ect.)

Basically no dairy(milk products), no eggs, no gelatin like marshmallows unless they are specialty, and you can eat honey but it depends on the person really. But vegan is just shorter and more strict for vegetarian which is a person who just eats vegetation and a few other things. No it is not fat free but for substitutes it is soy-milk, rice-milk, hemp-milk i guess, or almond milk for replacements of dairy products. And then there are sometimes other rice and soy replacements for things as well.

Vegetarian: No animals.

Vegan: No animals or animal by-products.

So not only can you not eat the cow, but you can't eat the stuff that it produces (milk, cheese, etc).

Honey is a true vegan no no. The sugar in the muffin would also be a kind not refined by bone char or something like evaporated can juice crystals.

For meat there are many substitutions like beans, nuts and soy. Vegans avoid honey (you can substitute agave nectar which taste just like honey or you can use molasses, stevia or maple syrup). Vegans avoid cheese (you can substitute soy cheese). Vegans avoid eggs (you can substitute flax seed in recipes). You can wear synthetic fabrics instead of leather or wool. Vegans avoid butter (you can use flax seed in recipes) or use coconut butter as a topping on popcorn and baked potatoes. Vegans avoid milk (you can substitute nut milks, rice milk or soy milk). I think this covers everything.

Q: what can't vegans have
A: eating at least five portions of a variety of fruit and veg every day
basing meals on starchy foods such as pasta, rice, cereals and pulses such as beans, peas and lentils. These should make up about a third of the diet
trying to cut down on food that is high in saturated fat and having foods that are rich in unsaturated fat instead, such as vegetable oils (including sunflower, rapeseed and olive oil), oily fish, avocados, nuts and seeds
trying to grill, bake, poach, boil, steam, dry-fry or microwave instead of frying or roasting in oil
eating some protein foods such as dairy products, eggs or pulses and having a variety of these foods
cutting down on sugar
watching how much salt we're eating - it's a good idea to check food labels and try not to add salt to your food when you're cooking

drinking about 1.2 liters (6 to 8 glasses) of fluid a day or more if you exercise
But you also need to make sure you're getting enough nutrients, especially protein, iron and selenium, which can sometimes be lacking in a meat-free diet.

If this didn't really answer your question then let's just say eggs, milk, butter,

What makes it vegan? It contains no animal products (milk and eggs).

What are the substitutes? There are many, but some common ones are soymilk, ricemilk for dairy milk, and ground flax seeds, soy yogurt, and mashed banana for eggs.

Is it low-fat? Nope. Vegan doesn't necessarily mean low-fat or healthy, especially not when it comes to muffins or other treats.

Vegans do not eat, wear, or use animal products.

Vegan does not mean fat free. All 'vegan muffin' means is the muffin has no animal products in it.
