Is eating a couple oats and honey bars every day (which contain soy) going to increase my estrogen levels?!
Answers: i'm a boy by the way. and i'm just worried if it increases it to unhealthy rates where side effects may occur. any info would be helpful
Don't listen to them. I am not a boy but I know what you're referring to. As long as you aren't eating massive amounts of soy a day, I'm pretty certain nothing will happen to you. Increased estrogen levels are rare in relation to soy consumption anyway.
When you're eating soy just remember this:
Many Asian cultures, such as China, consume a lot a soy based foods a year and their male populations are fine.
Granola bars won't contain much soy in the first place, they aren't that big.
You've probably eaten tofu at Chinese restaurants already and you're still fine.
Soy is in many foods that we eat every day. Read food labels and you'll be surprised to see what the stuff is in.
If you're still wary of eating soy just eat less of the stuff I guess or cut it out of your diet.
If you are concerned, there are many granola bars and fruit bars without soy. Nature Valley is one I like.
Yea, you will grow boobs. Get used to guys hitting on you.
On the plus side, you can date yourself!
Nope. There isn't enough soy in those to effect estrogen levels- male or female.
Many of the anti-soy horror stories that have been in the news lately have been based upon studies funded by the meat industry.
It is true that eating soy can raise estrogen level, I believe it's because it contains a lot of folic acid. However, you have to eat an insane amount for it affect you. Like, a ridiculous amount. You're not eating enough to cause any problems. The affects of soy have been blown out of proportion.
No, this is an old myth. A couple bars a day isn't going to do anything. Now if you lived off of soy products, then your estrogen level may go up slightly, but it's not going to be a statistically significant amount.
No. That isn't true. It doesn't even make sense when you think about it.
If female animal (cow, pig or chicken) is killed and a man eats the meat, why wouldn't he get too much estrogen from that?
Even if there was estrogen in the food, what would keep it from being broken down into it's basic chemicals in the stomach acid?
Why would estrogen from a plant be so powerful that it stands up to stomach acid and it's so mighty it whips all the male hormones in a human and completely takes over?
It doesn't make any sense. That would be like saying we'll turn green if we eat green vegetables or grow a curly tail if we eat pork.
You'd probably get more hormones from a glass of cows' milk than from an entire box of granola bars. A lot of the folks freaking about about the phytoestrogens in soy tend to forget that little factoid about cows kept for their milk being given massive amounts of hormones, which come out in the milk.
