Doesnt it bug you that places like ASDA package single apples?!
Answers: well maybe two apples but its still stupid. it really bugs me when i see this, its harmful to the enviroment. is there any point in complaining do you think?
Absolutely I agree. Whilst I'm at it, it's the supermarkets who have ruined this country. I'm sorry I think it was much better in the old days when people went down the high street with their shopping bag to the individual specialist shops in the community. Supermarkets have damaged the environment, are blots on the landscapes, ruined small business, farmers. I could go on..
You should write to the head office in Leeds.
asda really bugs me......... i hate adsa..........
it's for there benifit. you cant check the fruit to see if it's ripe or not. so they dont loose money when people just buy the ripe ones and leave the cr@p.
I only buy loose fruit and veg,But do not like Asda you could complain but unless enough people refuse to buy them they will continue selling them that way
it does annoy me and people shpuld complain...im just not the type to creat a fuss, people wont see this as big of a deal as i do so i just stay quiet.
Do what they did in Germany in the 90s - tear off the wrapping at the till and dump it on the floor. Supermarkets were forced to reduce packaging to respond to consumer demand.
I did complain to our local ASDA and the reason they do sell single fruit etc was, quote " many office workers like to buy just as they need on the day and we do have single customers" I just sighed and left shaking my head..
If you think thats bad, you should come to Japan. Youd have a heart attack. They package single bananas here! Actually... EVERYTHING in the produce section is in plastic. Its a disgusting waste of packaging. I hate it.
And the food cant breathe well in all that plastic and sometimes its rotten but you cant see that the way its packaged.
it is so stupid. i complained to tesco (i dont go to asda ) about the shrink wrapping of cucumbers and swede . the reply was " we aim to give our customers what they want" . most fruit and veg in tesco is wrapped. i dont want 6 prepacked tomatoes. i might only need 4 or i might need 7. same with mushrooms. its rare to find loose ones in tesco. who are they to decide how many i should have? ? well i aim to buy what i want so i now buy an organic fruit and veg box grown by local farmers and unwrapped. keep complaining. if more people do , then we might get results.
I agree with you Best of, the supermarkets have heard all the public & media disatisfaction with over packaging but they carry on regardless, even increasing the amount of rubbish we have to polute the world with. It's time more of us started to vote with our feet.
I am a Master Greengrocer at ASDA, which took me four years to train. Our store is one of the smaller ones and we only sell loose or pre-packed. The reason that this is done ( not only in Asdas, but other stores, is that a survey was done and that is what customers wanted, ie: being, the old age pensioners, that like fruit but kept having to throw most of them away because they did not get round to eating them quick enough, and single mums who where trying to introduce their children to healthy food but didn`t want to buy too many in case, they had to throw them away and couldn`t afford to do.
It does bug me that supermarkets package things in singles or doubles which obviously do not need packaging like that. Even if people do want 1 or 2 of a particular fruit...there's no need for it to be prepackaged. It's easy enough to pick them loose, and not everything needs a plastic bag to be used either.....I just take the boxes they're throwing away in Lidl, and put all my fruit/veg in that...then re-use the box when I get home or recycle it.
Easter eggs are a good example of excess packaging too.....the boxes are often double the size of the egg and then there's the extra plastic protective shell in there. With that shell, there's no need for the extra box, they could just print the box info on the inside shell.
Other non-food items (especially electrical/electronic goods) are packaged excessively. I think we do need to start boycotting those products that are over packaged. And I do think, we should be phoning/emailing these store's helplines to complain.
Ahhhh - Janet is a "Master greengrocer" - never heard of such a thing !! Just another made up title to go with the made up surveys that attempt to justify the use of unnecessary packaging.
Pay for your goods-remove the un-needed packaging and hand it back to the checkout operator.
