Aren't you killing fruits when you rip them out of their trees?!

Question: As some people say they dont eat meat as they are killing animals, cruelty blah blah. How about plants?

Answers: As some people say they dont eat meat as they are killing animals, cruelty blah blah. How about plants?

thats how buddists think...they cant step on anything or they will kill it they cant eat anything in fear of killing it...if that the case we would be killing millions and thousands of things. just think about all the things in the air...all the things you eat, breads, meats, fruits, veggies, snacks..everything...if your really want to get technical then yes technially you are killing plants..

Fruits are produced so they can be eaten. When they are eaten the seeds do not get digested. The animals carries these seeds over long distances and they come out in the animals waste. This ensures the plant spreads out. If it all grew in one place, the plants would deplete the soil and they all would die, this ensures their survival.

Most fruits also drop off the tree if they are not picked as well. Like apple trees for example.

The last I heard a wolf has not dropped it's leg and an elephant has not dropped it's nose to ensure survival.

Plants also don't feel pain from people picking fruit because they developed this method to survive.

Animals suffer when killed. Just like us.

good question i have also wondered the same thing always.

here have a star

Well technically you are. You are taking them from its life source and ending its life by picking it from the tree that makes it bigger. But however fruits do not feel pain unlike animals so it can be justiifed that without them vegans and even vegetarians will die..

Plants don't have feelings, as in they don't feel pain, they don't communicate like animals can. They are alive, but in a different way.

Technically, Yes, the fruit is no longer living when ripped from the tree, but it goes back, it's like a haircut.

I've seen experiments where they hook up stress machines on plants and they go into a state of shock/stress when you stick fire to them or tear a limb off-so in a sense plants are alive with reactions-guess its the cycle of life-only difference animals have eyes

ive always thought that, kinda, cuz some woman said it on notting hill, i dont no.....'we've gotta eat tho'

they really dont have nerves, i think everyone knows that.

It's the veg*n double standard. If not for this clause, the veg*n's would starve to death.

Techie said it all.

The purpose of fruit is to be eaten... to spread the seeds. So no eating fruit is not harming the plant. Neither is eating the entire plant. Pants do not have a nervous system and therefor cannot feel pain. You simply cannot compare "killing" a plant to the brutal slaughter of a sentient animal. The suffering animals feel must be immeasurable.

Plus vegetarian and vegans have to eat something, we just can't go out side and photosynthesize... it would be cool if could though. LOL

Picking fruit is like getting a haircut. It lets more grow. Also, if you dont eat animals, you actually save plants because the animals you don't eat ate plants all their life. Also, the seed dispersal of some plants involves animals eating the fruit, which contains seeds not damaged by the animal's digestive system, and the seeds being deposited in a nice fertile nutrutious area (gross i know).

Check this out its from PETA.

“What about plants?”

There is currently no reason to believe that plants experience pain because they are devoid of central nervous systems, nerve endings, and brains. It is theorized that animals are able to feel pain so that they can use it for self-protection purposes. For example, if you touch something hot and feel pain, you will learn from the pain that you should not touch that item in the future. Since plants cannot move from place to place and do not need to learn to avoid certain things, this sensation would be superfluous. From a physiological standpoint, plants are completely different from mammals. Unlike animals’ body parts, many perennial plants, fruits, and vegetables can be harvested over and over again without dying.

If you are concerned about the impact of vegetable agriculture on the environment, you should know that a vegetarian diet is better for the environment than a meat-based one, since the vast majority of grains and legumes raised today are used as feed for cattle. Rather than eating animals, such as cows, who must consume 16 pounds of vegetation in order to convert them into 1 pound of flesh, you can save many more plants’ lives (and destroy less land) by eating vegetables directly.

Plants are not consciously sentient, you poor irrational darling, you.
