1. My family loves meat too, I just make my own meals
2. I am only 14, and I dont have a job due to lack of positions in my town, it took awile, like 2 weeks, but my dad finally started buying me things like tofu and other things that i could eat. Lets just say i lived on salad, fruits, and pasta for about 2 weeks ^__^
3. research a thing call "tofurkey" I have yet to try it but i hear its really good and those are my plans for thanksgiving
4. I dont eat organic meat so I dont think I could answer with experience but, when eating any type of meat, its still eating flesh

and with the chicken and turkey thing
chicken and turkey were my favorite meats for about 3 years, if you can go for about 2-4 weeks without it then if you try to eat it, it will start to disgust you.

hope I helped
:]

Think you have to decide why you want to be vegi if you are considering free range food.

I'm not currently eating meat in a house that meat is eaten a lot too. When my mom makes a casserole, she just takes out a plate or bowl for me before adding the meat which was cooked separately. Offer to take care of clean-up in exchange. It may be extra work, but it's not as bad as having to shop all by your lonesome. As for organic meat, not all of it is treated as they say, and there are conventional (non-organic) farmers that feed their beef in pastures and I would have less of a problem supporting. It takes more research knowing where your meat comes from, but it's fulfilling in the end.

1. talk to them. i did. i became one, and my mom kept buying all of these meat products. so i made her take me shopping with her, and i got everything i need. remember protein when you buy foods, you need a lot of it.
2. it's not too expensive. you don't have to get tofu and stuff. go to a market, and talk to them. they can help you.
3. well, it's a sacrifice. you could check into recipes, there's foods that taste like it, but they aren't. just check into it. it's hard to give up some of these foods at first, but once you get used to it, you won't even think about meat.
4. be careful with organic, yes, they do go through a lot less pain and they are treated better. but a lot of organic food is just a hoax. anyone could take any meat and put an organic label on it. it's not all true.

good luck!

Dear Adriana,

I went vegetarian when I was quite young and my family was a total pain about it. Luckily, tofu is very cheap, but if you can't buy that, will they not buy you beans? If you are very committed and very poor you can buy dried beans and/or lentils, which cost almost nothing.

The first Thanksgiving I was sort of sad without turkey etc but now it doesn't even occur to me. I usually just make vegetarian stuffing, gravy, and eat everything else with my family.

Organic is just *what* they eat, not necessarily how they are treated, and not all organic operations are the same. Make sure you research the place you buy your meat from to be informed.

yeah, you can buy organic or free-range meat. try getting it from a local source if you can. then you know the animal has been raised without being fed supplements or anything outside of it's normal diet which would also be bad for you to consume. also, if it's from a local source, then the animal most likely hasn't been abused. however, organic/free range meat is hard to find, which leaves you rather unfortunate. but you should try going to a farmer's market with your family. :]

Organic and even free-range meat doesn't mean that the animals are treated and better.

you've got problems............ LOTS

lol it will never work :D
sry

Face it: you're an omnivore. Cruelty to animals is another matter. Even most omnivores would prevent that if possible.
