Is the human body designed to consume meat?!
Such as a situation is no longer found in most modern societies though it still exists in some parts of the world especially in places where crop farming is not so viable. In the west, meat eating is a choice as is being a vegetarian. In some places, that luxury of choice is not always available and the question is not whether to eat meat/vegetables or vegetables exclusively but what is there to eat period.
Answers: It was not so much designed as having evolved into being able to consume BOTH meat and plant foods.Sometime during man's long history, it became necessary as a means of survival to eat meat when plant foods were not so readily available like during the cold winter months.

yeah
ever since the caveman days we have been eating meat
we evolved eating meat
Yes....you need to eat meat to get health........!
Yes it was indeed!
If we weren't, wouldn't we not be able to digest it or chew it?
yea.. thats why we have so many different types of teeth.
yes. the acid in our stomach is strong enough to burn through metal. we are omnivorous.
YEP
In short... No. But meat tastes nice.
Try Google, you will get much more informative answers.
Yes, that is the reason that doctors think that we have appendixes. Humans also have canine teeth for biting and chewing meat.
yes. did you know that the appendix really did have a use??? way back before people could cook their meat they ate it raw and the appendix just aided the digestion of raw meats. so our body was designed for meat.
Yes. For one, the reason we have the teeth we do is to tear meat. Secondly, our body needs protein from meat to build muscle, among other things.
Yes - our teeth, stomachs and bowels are designed to consume meat. That is why we don't get much nutrition from fiber - it passes right through us because we can't digest it. We are made of meat!
The human body is designed to consume proteins. Meat just happens to be chocked full of complex proteins needed. Many plants and vegetables can give us the same proteins, but it is a rather bland taste. That is why people eat meat. Taste!
You need the extra proteins from meat to become intelligent. That's why cats and dogs are the most popular pets, they're smarter than the rest. If we never ate meat while we were evolving, we'd still have the intelligence of a deer or a rabbit.
Yes, humans are omnivores. Our canine teeth are evidence of that; you'll notice that some people exhibit pointy canine teeth (whereas many others resort to dental procedures to lessen the appearance of such points). The canines are designed to rip through meat in the same fashion as other omnivores (and carnivores). If humans were "designed" to be on a pure vegetarian diet our teeth would be closer to that of horses or cows, large & flat, with grinding surfaces used to masticate vegetation.
It takes about 5-6 hours to digest a portion of meat. Sometimes you body uses more energy to digest it, than it receives from eating it.
Yes, and we are also supposed to kill it ourselves. Nowadays it comes wrapped in nice (albeit wasteful) packaging just so we don't have to think too much about where it came from. Unless of course you buy it at the butchers. But that still saves you from chasing buffalo for your dinner.
humans have been eating meat as long as humans existed. If Darwin is correct then yes we are designed to consume meat. not to say that vegitarians are wrong for their choices. they are not. and they make adjustments for the protien they need to consume by eating other protien rich foods like beans and the like. the human body requires protien.
Think about the cavemen. Their diets consisted of a lot of grains and leafy things and a whatever meat they could get. And you had to look pretty hard for meat that didn't require too much killing.
Now fast forward about a couple of years when dead meat is abundant and all we have to do is drive our Rascal scooters down to the Mickey D's and get a nice juicy burger.
Humans today still have the biological remnants of a race that subsisted almost entirely on vegetables and grains. Its called our appendix.
In the early days of man, we used it to digest all that prehistoric fruits and veggies. Now we just get it taken out when it starts to rupture.
So to answer your question: Yes, our bodies are perfectly suited to consume meat. Just not in the quantity that we seem to be doing it in.
Think of it this way; our closest biological relative, the chimpanzee, eats nearly as much red meat as people do. Pigs, likewise, have a dental structure and digestive tract remarkably similar to ours, and pigs will eat meat just as they will eat eggs ( I grew up on a farm when I was a kid and the pig herd ate one of the lambs to death after it wandered into their pen, so don't tell me pigs don't eat meat).
So if these two animals, whose bodies are remarkably similar to ours can both eat meat, and indeed often seem to prefer to do so, then it is logical that our bodies were meant to process meat as well. Due to technological advances we don't need it, but the capability of processing it is still there.
no, but we use every excuse to justify it! just read the above answers! oh BTW, Darwin was vegetarian!
survival of the fittest, well, I am sure I am healthier and fitter then most fatties eating meat any day!
i dont think so. i never at meat or fish or eggs till i was 18. and when i did i became fat and put on 4 stone. after a few years i stopped again and now im fit again and feel much stronger and fitter. if u eat meat u will think u hav to cos ur brought up this way. im brought up veg so i think ur body doesnt need it. its a personal choice i think. body is designed to consume food whatever food.
yes it is but it doesnt mean you have too I was vegetarian for 11 years with no problems then started eating meat when I wanted to have a baby.
- "yes. the acid in our stomach is strong enough to burn through metal"
This sums up the dumb mentality the average yahoo(Q&A'er) has on this issue.
Study the biology of humans and tigers. Then study the digestive process. Then you'll have your answer.
Happy fruit eating.
edit-
David D - You're right to use our taste buds to figure what we shoud eat. So, in nature, humans would prefer a natural(raw) fruit over a natural(raw) part of an animal.
Absolutely NOT.
From our flat grinding teeth, to the length of our intestinal tract, to observing the health effects of the west's gorging on animal flesh, to the diets of our closest genetic relatives, to our alkaline saliva, there is no doubt in the scientific community that humans are NOT designed to eat meat.

yes because u need meat it has protein we need protein
