Vegetarians and eating fish?!
Every vegetarian I have met throughout my life has been a fish eater - but reels in shock at the thought of eating a land animal? Seems strange to me!
Answers: OK why do little cute fish get eaten and meat doesn't?

If every "vegetarian" you've ever met has been a fish eater, then you have NEVER met a vegetarian. No vegetarian eats *any* dead animals. People who eat fish are simply not vegetarian, whether they call themselves that or not.
someone who eats fish is NOT a real vegetarian. This has always bothered me as well. BTW, I am a vegetarian and I do NOT eat seafood.
Vegetarians don't eat fish. If you met someone who did, they weren't vegetarian.
Vegetarians are weird in their choices.
Many are simply confused.
I know Veggie Heads who eat cheese?....
What the hell, cheese has rennet .... enzymes from the lining of a cows stomach.....how is that veggie??....
fish flesh IS meat so they can't call themselves vegetarian unless they are just complete idiots.
Some people think anything with 4 feet (mammals) are wrong to eat...but think two legged animals and fish are ok to eat. (I don't understand that either)
Most vegetarians would agree that eating ANY animal would preclude them from considering themself a vegetarian.
As a side note to the answer before me....Cabot brand cheese has NO rennet in it.
The true vegetarian (by definition) does not eat fish. I believe you have met persons who are mainly vegetarian most of the time, but will eat fish on occasion.
I am a vegan, but I don't expect others to be. It's my choice and I feel it is right for me. I try not to force my beliefs on others. I do think that most people in the USA should eat less meat, but that is based on what we know about health.
It's really simple - if you're a vegetarian, you don't eat anything with a face.
Unless it's Michael Weatherly. And in a good way.
There is no contradiction. Real vegetarians don't eat fish or any other animal. Some people call themselves "vegetarian" and eat fish.
I have been vegetarian since 1984 and I don't think people who eat fish are real vegetarians. The whole point of vegetarianism is to not eat animals and fish are animals. I'm not sure why people who eat animals are so in love with the word "vegetarian."
My wife is Hindu (from India) and Indian vegetarians definitely don't eat fish. Her religious group has a thing called "Meatless Day" which they use to promote vegetarianism.
This is the wording of the "Meatless Day Pledge"
I Pledge that.....
I wholeheartedly support the idea that animals, who have befriended man through the ages, must be given their rights.
I further pledge to observe November 25 (Sadhu Vaswani's Birthday) as
MEATLESS DAY
and abstain from all food of violence (Flesh, Fish, Fowl)

By the way, cheese does not always contain animal rennet.
Most of the world's vegetarians eat a small amount of fish. The only people that do not accept this fact is a few of Yahoo's finest.
Those people lied to you. Vegetarians DO NOT absolutely DO NOT eat fish. The people who eat only fish as an animal are called PESCETARIANS.
Because the fish live in water.
u never met a vegetarian. but u have met a lot of pescetarians. im a pescetarian.
there are 2 reasons i can think of:
1. because they want to give up meat, but because they find it too hard or unhealthy, they eat fish, others use this same logic and eat poultry as well (pesco-pollo vegetarian)
2. because they think fish dont have feelings the way mammals so.
Well its called pescoterian im one but i do still think it is cruel to eat fish aswell the only reason i eat fish is because im 13 and my mom still wants me to get some protein so when i am a little older i can give up fish too!!
Vegetarians can vary greatly. The ones who do it for health reasons probably eat fish. Some eat fish and dairy and eggs and animal byproducts because they can't bear to give up animals entirely. I know someone like that. Vegans are for animal welfare.
