Question: Does anybody know how I can fry my Tofu so it is like what I order at the Japanese restaurant????

We love it in my family and every time I try to make it, ( I use Panko) it does not work.....

First of all, it depends on the type of tofu you buy.

If you buy the silken-style tofu in the small box (12 oz.) that is vacuum packed and not see-through it will be hard to mimic the Japanese tofu.

It would be much easier to mimic the Japanese dish if you buy the water-packed see-through tofu (firm or extra firm) that usually comes in 16 oz. packages.

Drain tofu and place it in between a kitchen towel or several paper towels. Place on countertop or cutting board and place heavy object on top (i.e. a pot with heavy cans, a flat plate, or several books) and let sit for about 45 minutes to an hour to let all the excess water to squeeze out.

Cut into pieces, dip in soy sauce, dredge in panko, and then fry in about 1/2 inch of oil in pan.

I hear you! I love to get Budda's Delight at the restaraunt down the street, but can never make it like they do. I think they actually might deep fry the tofu. I've tried to stir fry, and just cant get it quite the same.
